Mostly my old analog bike sits in storage and so every time I get it out I am reminded that I still need to get and install fenders and a kickstand. Oh, and figure out what is slightly broken on the seat post... And maybe get some wider handlebars that are more comfy... Maybe some new grips...

My statement on the developing situation regarding Mayor Her.

Allegations are not dispositive, and there is much that we do not yet know about what occurred between Mayor Her, senior members of city leadership, Chief Henry, and other members of the Saint Paul Police Department. The report prepared by outside counsel of the workplace conduct investigation into Mayor Her’s behavior has not been made public. The City Council has only seen the Mayor’s administration’s two-page summary of that report, prepared by a department she oversees. The allegations in Chief Henry’s complaint have yet to be adjudicated in legal proceedings.

There are, however, a few things that we do know. The allegations against Mayor Her that were made public this week are deeply troubling. They must be taken seriously by the public, the legal system, and the City Council. We also know that the Mayor’s administration’s own summary of the investigation says that the Mayor engaged in “offensive and inappropriate behavior,” “created an uncomfortable work environment for City employees,” and “sent inappropriate text messages” to at least two City employees. The Mayor was engaging in this behavior while our City was occupied by federal forces last winter, a moment when we desperately needed steady, focused leadership in City Hall.

Saint Paul city employees—no matter their title—should never question whether they will be treated with professionalism and respect by their supervisors and the city’s leadership. Our taxpayers should be able to trust that their money will be spent on essential services, not on lawsuits brought on by inappropriate workplace conduct. And every single person in our City should feel confident that the highest levels of City Hall are functioning effectively and relentlessly focused on making life better for Saint Paulites.

Any person accused of wrongdoing deserves to have a fair, impartial legal process determine the facts of what happened and assess the appropriate legal consequences. I respect that process, and do not intend to comment on the merits or specific claims in any current or future litigation. However, the existence of a legal process does not mean either the public or the Council is prevented from demanding better. As both a resident of this City and a member of the Saint Paul City Council, it is clear to me that we need and deserve more from our Mayor.

That starts with transparency. The full report from Resolute Law must be released. Just as urgently, the Mayor must explain how she is currently able to lead the Saint Paul Police Department as the chief executive for Saint Paul. A police force that does not have meaningful leadership from the people’s elected representative is not a tolerable or sustainable state of affairs. We need to know—now—what has and will be done to ensure that that leadership and oversight exists.

Keyboard shopping is the worst. I loved my Cloud Nine Ergo TKL but it's been a little flakey lately and then I had an accident with a glass of water today that really did it in. Considering replacing it with the Dygma Raise 2 but not sure I want to go up double the price.

I have now ridden my e-bike to the fair on 5 days. I’ve taken some of the routes suggested to me here and from friends, all to try to find the best way from western Mac-Groveland to the fair, since the quickest way, across Snelling Ave bridge just south of the fair, is not safe. Thoughts:

Transit has always been the best way to get to the Minnesota State Fair! From 1891 to 1952 a complex streetcar network ran in and out of the fairgrounds bringing thousands of visitors every day. You can still see the historic arch that trolleys would pass under.

As a seasoned Fair veteran, I'm always surprised when I run into something that isn't new but that one never seen before. This morning it was the Sangria Sunday tucked behind Lulu's Public House near the Foci glass people. #MNStateFair For $13 you get about a half a bottle of decent 🧵1/2

I have tried the Pickle Pie from Lulu's, and I thought it was pretty good! It's definitely a savory pie, but also a technically a fruit cream pie at the same time. It's not too much, honestly the portion size is nearly perfect. @amityf.bsky.social liked it more than I did. #MNStateFair

I generally am a fan of Herbivorous Butchers but even I think some of their previous #MNStateFair offerings have been not amazing. This year though, the Cuban Drift is really quite good. The pastry on the outside is particularly great, but the other flavors and textures really work. 🧵1/2

Every outlet's going to focus on Optimus Prime, but the truth is Peter Cullen voiced -so- many characters in so many projects. He and Frank Welker were the joint Mel Blanc of our generation, and it's hard to find an animated show or movie in our time he wasn't involved in. This is a gigantic loss.

No lines at Gate 16 (bus/bike/ped entrance on the NW corner near the UofMN) and either the new metal detectors aren't working or they are a LOT less sensitive this year.

Relatively few people at Gate 16 at the MN State Fair on opening day 2026. Only maybe 3,000 or so. 😜
