That cutting wheel on the bottom started at 6.5in just like it's sibling on the top... Glad I got a few of them!

Shows a single new 6.5 inch cutting wheel on the top and a used identical cutting wheel on the bottom sitting on another new wheel. The wheel shows about 0.5 inches of wear as evidenced by a tape measure with imperial units layered over the top to show the wear.

As a seasoned Fair veteran, I'm always surprised when I run into something that isn't new but that one never seen before. This morning it was the Sangria Sunday tucked behind Lulu's Public House near the Foci glass people. #MNStateFair For $13 you get about a half a bottle of decent 🧵1/2

I have tried the Pickle Pie from Lulu's, and I thought it was pretty good! It's definitely a savory pie, but also a technically a fruit cream pie at the same time. It's not too much, honestly the portion size is nearly perfect. @amityf.bsky.social liked it more than I did. #MNStateFair

I generally am a fan of Herbivorous Butchers but even I think some of their previous #MNStateFair offerings have been not amazing. This year though, the Cuban Drift is really quite good. The pastry on the outside is particularly great, but the other flavors and textures really work. 🧵1/2

No lines at Gate 16 (bus/bike/ped entrance on the NW corner near the UofMN) and either the new metal detectors aren't working or they are a LOT less sensitive this year.

Relatively few people at Gate 16 at the MN State Fair on opening day 2026. Only maybe 3,000 or so. 😜

If you happen to be in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, I strongly recommend stopping in at Sprelle in downtown. Had a fantastic toasted house bread sandwich and one of the better danishes (blueberry and peach) I've ever had.

I have been told that some people say that the reason for pretty obnoxious smells along the UofMN Transitway near 25th (east of Huntington Bank Stadium) is because of "the ag school". This is grossly incorrect! The real reason is trains illegally dumping spoiled cargo in the rail yard! 🧵1/2

Clearly I haven't told you about the street I grew up on in Ramsey: Erkium! Don't look for it in the periodic table, it's a typo for erbium on the street signs in that particular subdivision that were left in place and made official.

I am so jealous of this, you have no idea. For context, this is from Thursday on a local street I use regularly that has a huge amount of pedestrian usage.

A mostly cleared sidewalk in the foreground quickly becomes covered impassively from the plow wake to clear a parking lane on a commonly used street between a junior high school and a local shopping and transit hub.

Scoreless after the first period here at Ridder Arena with SCSU visiting the Gophers, and they clearly remember the last time they were here in the spring. The Gophers have mostly had the upper hand, but the Huskies spent the last 10 keeping them from doing almost anything.

Definitely some mixed feelings about the new layout in Creative Activities at the #MNStateFair this year. Expansion into the Annex was past due but feels like they could have moved more small cases back there to fix some traffic issues caused by moving the big demo area near the main entry. 🧵1/5

Urban Glow Dirty Notini: Slightly sweet. Pickle brine lovers rejoice! I present to you your drink of the #MNStateFair. Lemonade base is nearly overwhelmed by olive brine with enough dill to prevent the whole from being stodgy. Neither too sweet, salty, subtle, or overwhelming. Recommended.

That was a heck of a ride today! I've done that mileage a fair bit lately, but usually take a long break at around mile 26ish. Today, no substantive breaks till mile 35! Also, that first 12 was nearly a mountain bike trail that was nearly nonstop to avoid the biting flies. (But gorgeous!)

So how do the tarrifs work for an order like that from a country that hasn't signed a Great Deal(tm) with Dear Leader? An article in Ars Technica said, "a fixed tariff rate of between $80 to $200 per item". What does that mean for that 10,000 part order of parts that cost me $0.03 each? 🧵7/9
