Yeah, that’s unfortunate. Don’t know why they keep using that terminology. Split pump is more accurate: can produce heating or cooling.

I’ve started inviting my older kids to hang out as I’m editing. I try to narrate the decisions I’m making. How to recast a sentence, why I reject spell check suggestions, things I leave in place to honor the author’s voice. I badly want them to think of writing and editing as a human art…

Not a great picture, but the Purple Martins are back!

At the tope of a pole down by the bay are three Purple Martin nest boxes. On the one at the very top of the pole, a pair of Purple Martins sits. They almost certainly have eggs or chicks in the nest box. They have driven off several seagulls who have come too close.
