This photo is of the original, actually (which could be yours if you want). The frame was a total serendipitous find, and to this day I can't get over how perfectly the strips of wood of the frame match the shelves in the drawing 🤯 I found the frame AFTER completing this illustration!

I'm officially out of "Masks" prints 🎉 If you're interested in getting one of these for you or a loved one, you can reserve one on ko☕fi. I'll get more printed when I have orders for 3 of them or sometime in mid-November, whichever comes first. ko-fi.com/s/d23a8db825 #art #mentalhealth
A framed drawing hangs on a white wall. The frame is made of horizontal strips of wood painted white, and the image is matted by a black mat. The image is a black-and-white illustration of a person from behind looking at a wall full of shelves of different absurd theatrical masks.

If you are skipping parts of books because you don’t sufficiently “relate” to something (whether it be a plot line or a character), you are doing yourself and the book a huge disservice—such a gross consumerist way of understanding / engaging with novels (or any storytelling)

This is one of my mini-zines that unfolds and has stuff on the other side of the paper. In this instance, it unfolds for book recommendations! I'd like to make this a longer list that I maintain digitally, release in future editions, or similar...does that sound interesting to you?
a piece of paper that previously was unfolded. It has four quadrants: easy reads, cozy reads, quick reads, and nostalgic reads, and across the map are different book titles and authors

I was surprised this #zine was popular at the end of Sept. I'm a little worried when this one is a hit, bc it makes me wonder how many people are going through health crises or know someone who is 😢 Whatever the case, I'm glad I can provide a small resource that offers small relief.
a white mini-zine sits atop a rainbow striped rug. The cover of the zine says "What to read when you're in the hospital" and has drawings of a book, an e-reader, and a sad emoji with a bandaid and an NG tube

There are a few pins that people tend to not gravitate towards; these ones have less pithy sayings and require more context to understand. Be on the lookout for posts about those soon 👀

I'm glad this random project has gotten so much love. For me it doesn't feel very "artistic" in that I'm not doing super intense illustration or planning a page layout or anything that feels more laborious. But do my hands hurt after cranking out 20 of these bad boys on the buttonmaker? You bet.

The favored pins from BAQZF 🔥 It was fun to see people rummage through all these pins and have their faces light up when they realized what they were about...and then find a saying they liked!
Four button pins arrayed in a square, all with handwritten text in black ink. Top left: pink pin that says "I love human art". Top right: orange pin that says "More thoughts, less vibes". Bottom left: blue pin that says "Luddite". Bottom right: lime green pin that says "Allergic to slop"

Happy Banned Books Week! My books have been banned in various places, particularly All the Birds in the Sky and Victories Greater Than Death. A lot of libraries also chose not to order copies of my queer YA books bc they'd just have to remove them again, and they didn't want to waste the money.

Pumpkin painting of the Eye of Sauron from The Lord of the Rings book trilogy. A near black coloring with a gradual gradient of deep reddish orange from the bottom of the pumpkin, prominently highlighting the glowing eye. The pumpkin sits on a wooden bench in front of plants and a mini rock waterfall in the background. Traditional art and brush techniques were used to create the effects.

When some comics became intangible online, paper became *visible* to artists again, leading to beautiful new paper comics. Now, when some "art" becomes inhuman, *we* become visible to ourselves again. What beautiful new *human* art might be the result?
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

I drew this a long time ago, but it's a favorite #coloredpencil #drawing. Something that's especially wonderful about the original is the large central wings look iridescent if you walk around it or otherwise view it at multiple angles!

A really, REALLY amazing thing happened last month: I sold an original #coloredpencil #illustration! 🎊 To be more specific, I sold the one pictured here, "Ice Seraph".
A slanted view of an illustration framed in a silver frame with a black mat. The illustration depicts a light-skinned face surrounded by six blue-purple wings whose tips are white and have blue eyes on them. There is a seventh wing directly below the chin that is one large blue eye. There are some swirling mint green and pale purple shapes around the seraph.

One thing that really validated my zine-making practice this month was how my newest #zines got a lot of love. My two zines from this year, the book swap mini-zine and the #perzine "The invisibility of spouse", have been a hit.
Three zines lined up with a light wood backdrop. The left zine is a mini-zine that says "How to do a book swap with friends" in black ink on white paper, with two books below the text with arrows between the books. The middle zine is made of white paper with the text "THE INVISIBILITY OF SPOUSE" written out in cutout pieces of letters from magazine pages. The right zine is made of lime green paper and in shaky black handwriting says "THIS COULD'VE BEEN A ZINE"
