my best friend worked at University of Mississippi at the time when nearly the entire faculty and student body was demanding the Confederate statue at the entrance be taken down but it wasn’t, because apparently the answer to Mike’s question is “a handful of very rich football families”

I actually get my information from people who understand exactly what it is and why it’s a fucking autocorrect slot machine that does nothing but extract. This is hot garbage. Just because I have ethics and a spine doesn’t mean I don’t also engage critical thinking. Slop boosters don’t.

Another reason show cancellations are spiking btw. Miley said she couldn’t face touring again either. I know I’m not famous but I’ve been exclusively focusing on local stuff since returning. I won’t even travel far on the train.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Wrote a lil something reflecting on my experience at the Thamesmead Festival in August!

The whole thing is available online now, but if you're local it'll be dropping through your door soon!

I get what she’s saying, but fundamentally if you surround yourself with people who are likely to hold you accountable you then need to not cry when they hold you accountable

Oh 100% - it’s just the language they use sometimes surprises me, they pick up on absolutely everything they’ve ever heard, its fascinating to me. Like words/phrases I know we definitely don’t use, and there’s not a lot of screen time in the house so it’s just things learned out and about

These aren’t things we regularly say, and the kid doesn’t really have screens, so I’m not sure where it’s been picked up, but it’s been a big thing over the past couple of months. I’ve been explaining you shouldn’t make a big deal out of people’s appearance because it might make them uncomfortable

I did make this argument to them, and highlight that maybe the shelters are full because they keep rejecting people on nonsensical grounds, and I basically got told to lump it
120
Cassie Graves @cassiegraves.com · 28/09/2026
They rejected us from cat (and dog) adoption from every shelter we were feasibly close enough to because of this - and the fact we only have a shared garden in our building. We live in a (pretty large) 4th floor flat. In London. Just mathematically, most Londoners live in flats with no garden

I cannot ever forget how the marching bands refused to be silent, as requested, going past the house where the mother of those three murdered boys took refuge in the weeks after her unthinkable loss. A small detail that exposes everything this march is for.

QUICK DISCLAIMER: I will *always* be happy to spend money on books. I grew up poor af and it was the philosophy in my house too. Books are an essential item. Also this book isn't in the library so I can't just go get it there so it has to be bought

Cassie Graves @cassiegraves.com · 26/09/2026
I've been saying for ages they're gonna pick a book they already own. Week 2/pick 3 was all it took. Anyway I'm now taking the kid to the library tomorrow to get an actual new book for the week, and spending money on a new book despite just buying three more (that they chose)

Cassie Graves @cassiegraves.com · 26/09/2026
My kid gets to bring a book home from school every week. Tell me why on Thursday the book chosen had 8 pages missing so we had to replace it - I've promised I'll get another copy and it's out of print??????? It's fine I've found it on wob BUT The replacement book is... one already on our bookshelf

Worth noting her entire online existence comes from the acknowledgment that everything is political/has undertones of sociopolitical commentary. I’m confused by her take on this.

NO. THE DISCOURSE IS THAT PEOPLE SHOULDN’T BE TREATED LIKE THAT IN THE WORKPLACE. EVER. IT’S WHY LABOUR UNIONS EXIST. And the sorts of people who believe in treating people the way companies like that do USUALLY EXTEND THAT TO THEIR PERSONAL LIVES.

Someone I follow said the iced coffee thing is a sign of the literacy crisis because it’s about Fortune 500 companies, and when someone pointed out that actually no, it’s still elitist nonsense that should be called out, she told people to stop reading more in to it than there is.

Anyway I’m blocking these people. They’re tedious engagement farmers. The iced coffee discourse is very clearly gendered criticism. Iced coffee is seen as girly and silly. As someone who drinks black coffee most of the time, I’ve seen the weird elitism and sexism around it.

Have you ever had a corporate meeting in your life? Business dinners used to be the norm, grabbing a coffee and a snack while we walk to a room is the norm whenever I’m in the office. Breaking bread is an ancient human custom across cultures for a reason. It’s normal human social behaviour

Cassie Graves @cassiegraves.com · 25/09/2026
100% this. Almost every in-person corporate meeting I have ever had, btw, people use as an excuse to go get a coffee.

Oh we ordered the new dining chairs yesterday. There’s a 3-4 week lead time because they’re handmade (everything that wasn’t handmade was ugly as sin/unsafe for a kid) but fully expecting a delay because there’s 4 of them. Fingers crossed we get them before Christmas!

Got my job interview rejection next day so was relieved honestly yesterday to not have to live through that for days. In better news, the passport application for my 3 year old that I’ve been sorting out since the end of last month was finally officially approved just now so that’s one less worry!

Your feed now contains one Red Deer and several complimentary ferns. Enjoy.
A Red Deer looks through a curtain of green ferns with its antlers tangled in leafy fronds, giving the impression it's accidentally wearing a woodland hat. The softly blurred background creates a peaceful forest scene.

Ireland, like most countries, punishes women financially for having children, does not value care work or pay for it appropriately, and has an economy that depends on the unpaid care work of women. We are fundamentally unprepared for an aging population with fewer young folks around.
