If you've been wondering what I've been up to lately, the answer is (partly)...THIS! Spotted on the Frankfurt Book Fair hotlist! Absolutely in love with this project, brought to life with my collaborators @calmdowntom.bsky.social and Alessandro Olivieri. More 👊 soon...
Fisticuffs! listing in Frankfurt hotlist, a riotous, irreverent graphic novel told through a queer, feminist lens, set in the world of Vistorian women's boxing. Agents: Meg Davis and Fabienne Schwizer

Malcolm was my boss for seventeen years and a very good friend for every one of those years. He scaled the heights of mainstream publishing but was always a tireless advocate for, and fan of, SFF. He was constant, gracious, very funny and a brilliant publisher. The genre owes him so much. Go well.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

A few years ago I went to a pig sanctuary and most of the pigs were stoned from eating green acorns. This one, Wilbur, couldn’t stand up and was too big to lift, so the staff had to leave him in this bush and wait for him to sober up.

Christmas Titan - From Val Klavans (valklavans.bsky.social) - flic.kr/p/dEAtMH
Cassini's Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS) instrument captured Titan on December 25, 2012 in order to search for clouds on the Fensal-Aztlan region as part of its "Titan Monitoring Campaign." Titan's North Polar hood & South Polar Vortex are both visible in this composite. (North is up)

This RGB false color composite of Titan is in 3 different filters: infrared, methane band, and ultraviolet.

These images were taken on December 25, 2012 and received on Earth December 26, 2012. The camera was pointing toward TITAN at approximately 1,316,444 miles (2,118,612 kilometers) away, and the images were taken using the CL1, MT3, UV3 and CB3 filters.

The Jewel Box Cluster, NGC 4755 - From Rolf Wahl Olsen - flic.kr/p/dBvSPv
The Jewel Box is an open star cluster visible as a faint smudge with the naked eye under dark skies. It is located 6,440 light years away towards the constellation Crux, The Southern Cross. The first person to recognise it as a cluster of individual stars was Nicolas Louis de Lacaille during his visit to Cape Town in 1752. The name of the cluster originates from John Herschel's later observations in the 1830's, also from Cape Town, and his resulting vivid description:

"A most vivid and beautiful cluster, though neither a large nor a rich one, is yet an extremely brilliant and beautiful object when viewed through an instrument of sufficient aperture to show distinctly the very different colour of its constituent stars, which give it the effect of a superb piece of fancy jewellery"

The bright orange star in the centre of the cluster is known as Kappa Crucis. It provides a striking contrast with the rest of the hot blue cluster members. Although the cluster is a mere 14 million years young this star has already reached the red giant phase of its life and will most likely explode in a brilliant supernova within the next few million years.

The cluster has ben photographed by a wide array of professional telescopes, including ESO's VLT and La Silla observatories and the Hubble Space Telescope. Click on the following link to view a beautiful composite image that provides a zoom into the heart of the cluster: Putting the Jewel Box in Perspective
