It's amazing to live in a time when I'm up in the middle of the night, listening to my feverish kid sleep, and my primary thought is that our Renn Faire tickets are going to be wasted.

I know the feed is bleak, but please have a brand new lamb picture. I wasn’t expecting this one, and he might be a premie, but his mom is great and he is eating well.
A little white lamb.

The child has a half day today and also discovered the organ feature on his keyboard, so I'm trying to finish up my workday while discordant organ music floats in from across the hall.

I'm voting for Bob Brooks (his opponent is Ryan Mackenzie). But honestly, this would make me vote for him harder. Also "funny" that it says, "check the facts" at the bottom.

Part of this practice is also to demonstrate the value of reading to your child, and... uh... yeah, AI Daddy reads while read Daddy does more important man things does the exact opposite of that.

Also see, I cannot detect the difference between lavender and mint by smell alone when my husband and I get our favorite latte orders. My brain is just like, "huh, these are herbal!" I need to taste them to differentiate between them.

I love the way my post-COVID nose incorrectly attributes smells all the time. It knows it smells something, but it attributes smells to the wrong things. I swear I smell bacon right now. I have not eaten bacon in decades. No one in this house has cooked bacon in YEARS.

What I think is noteworthy: Shipping and fanfic have largely been populated with non-male writers, artists, and posters. This is yet another example of the right co-opting a part of internet culture. A few additional thoughts...

This thread... One of my feelings about AI is that tech integration into our household and programs (hello, Word!) from the tech industry have gotten so shitty that they think they can cover consumer frustration with Super Clippy instead of actually improving their products.

I’ve been beating this drum for years, but part of why toxic fraternity culture thrives is because most college students are still underage and don’t have good alternatives to that scene if they want to go out and drink with their friends

In some really big ways, Malfoid is the next logical step in the HP ethical war. If you like the series enough to tolerate the fact that its creator funds trans death, are you willing to make art and promote a ship that's being uplifted by racists, misogynists, homophobes, etc?

This puts hobbyists into a moral quandary about what to support and what to defend, but the moment you start engaging in that debate, you're already engaging with fascist trolls as though they're legitimate actors, which is the entire point.

Rebecca Ruth Seidel @caseinmicelles.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Their engagement isn't an earnest manifestation of shipping, but trying to insert themselves into an existing space to pollute it---what fascists always do on the internet.

As a concept, genderswapped enemies to lovers is super common. What's uncommon is both the name and the embrace of a ship by men on the right to use as proof that their side is winning.

Rebecca Ruth Seidel @caseinmicelles.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I think the unquestioned inclusion of the term foid in the ship name is also manifestation of how much right-wing culture creep there has been into mainstream internet spaces over the last few years. Sigma. Chad. Mog. Incel language is now common parlance for gen z and gen alpha.

Rebecca Ruth Seidel @caseinmicelles.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Of course, this kind of fic has been going on FOREVER. What's significant to them about Malfoid is that the ship's popularity also uplifts JKR and her anti-trans agenda, promoting her beliefs and used as proof that the backlash against HP is fading.

From m/m relationships to mpreg, shipping has been testing the boundaries of what is viewed as traditional both in a cultural and a biological sense. Genderswapping one member of an m/m pairing is seen as a political victory for the right and a banner to wave in the culture war.
1130
Rebecca Ruth Seidel @caseinmicelles.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
The history of fanfic and shipping was largely formed by women writing m/m ships. While this is distinctly different from writers being pro-LGBTQ or even non-misogynistic (so much to unpack there), looking at the top ships on ao3 will show you that straight shipping isn't the norm.

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

they were *lying* when they were "worried" about Asian-American college applicants, and they are *lying* now when they're "worried" about "strivers." They do not want non-white people being in any way superior (or evident) to white people. that's it. that's the whole thing.

interesting that conservatives were militantly “we must reward hustle” when the target was affirmative action at elite universities and now, when faced with the success of south asians and other groups, it is “i think we are too meritocratic”

there’s just something about how even as little as a few years ago, when you pressed a button on a household appliance, it would make it do something but today — through the miracle of progress!! — the appliance can simply… ignore you. why? it won’t say! press & pray you are judged worthy

I predict we'll need gyms for our brains too, once Al

The soy sauce is never gluten-free, so it's impossible to decide if sushi is gluten free from the label. Sometimes, the fake crab or eel sauce have gluten in them. The struggle is real.

I declare that this is unfair unless they make them gluten-free. I just have to stare sadly at the food, dreaming of my hoagie days, whenever the kid and partner want Wawa. At least let me have this.
