We're approaching three years since October 7 and three years of genocide in Gaza. Israeli killings of Palestinians had totally detached from attacks on Israelis by mid-2024. Even if one treated all hostage deaths as happening in 2025, the ratio was 144-to-1.

Alternate, hard left letter to Iranian prisoners thanks them for "selflessly" not escaping during the 2025 Israeli airstrike. Wow.
We fully understand that the American/Israeli aggression against Iran has created hardships that are unprecedented since the Iran-Iraq War in the early 1980s. This hardship is particularly felt in prisons. Wartime logic means even less transparency and more executions, and the stifling of legal procedures, no matter how problematic and tenuous they already are.

You showed awe-inspiring dignity and humanity last year after the Israelis attacked Evin prison. They thought that the prisoners would take advantage of the destruction and free themselves. Instead, you saw the wounded and those under the rubble, the guards, the infirmary nurses and doctors, the visitors, the social workers and stayed to rescue them rather than escaping. We read the news thousands of miles away and honored your profound decency and selflessness.

One of the biggest reasons Abdul's election to the US Senate would be seismic is because he'd be one of the only people in that chamber of Congress who is willing to say the plain and open truth about Egypt and Pakistan.
Speaking today at a Pakistani-American event in metro Detroit, U.S. Senate Dem nominee Abdul El-Sayed called for democracy in Pakistan, currently under military rule: “On the 79th anniversary of Pakistan, we also have to be clear that right now, democracy is not being allowed to take its place.” El-Sayed cricitized the jailing and intimidation of politicians such as ex-PM Imran Khan.
U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed criticizes Pakistan’s military dictatorship, referring to the military dictatorship in Egypt, where his parents immigrated from, calling for democracy and human rights. He spoke today in Southfield at the Pakistan Association of America’s annual event celebrating Pakistan’s Independence and US Independence.

Oh, look, I have another paragraph from 'Why We Fear AI' for that
We don’t need “superintelligence” to know what’s
causing climate change—we already know. We are failing to stop
climate change because capitalism stands in the way, not because
we lack intelligence. Ultimately, intelligence isn’t the problem, so
superintelligence isn’t the solution. What we need is a political
and economic movement that can deeply democratize all aspects
of life, including the ways we produce and distribute things, so
that we can create a sustainable economy that works for all.

Worth reading this whole piece, which ends with something that I've been leaning on lately too: the answer isn't to give up. Writing/thinking/learning, all part of making meaning in your life, which kids need and deserve. And good teachers matter! www.theguardian.com/books/ng-int...
AI, we’re told, will make learning more efficient. But is that what we dream of for our kids – an efficient childhood? To write an efficient story, sing an efficient song? An adequate teacher is not only teaching about Henry VIII; they’re teaching your child how to read a human character. A good teacher is showing them how to shape an argument, how to command an audience, how to tell jokes, how to pass on knowledge. A great teacher is showing your child what it is to love. They are teaching your child how to be human. A computer will only teach your child how to be a computer.

El Sayed: "When it comes to trans rights, this is the right to get the health care that you need...It’s the right not to be discriminated against by your government because of who you are. Because what tends to happen is they come for theirs, then they come for yours"
The idea that we can assent to the taking away of anybody’s rights, and think that somehow the government won’t come for all of our rights, is itself the problem. And, look, I don’t need people to understand how they use their rights. I just need people to agree that the government shouldn’t be able to take any of our rights. I put my face on the ground thirty-four times a day, David. Most people don’t understand why I do it. I don’t need them to understand. I just want to have the right to do it. And when people decide that they want to take away my right to do that, I’ve got a problem. Now, I hope that everybody’s going to show up and say, No, no, no. You can’t stop that person or that community from reflecting and praying as they choose. Similarly, when it comes to trans rights, this is the right to get the health care that you need. That’s really what it comes down to. It’s the right to be who you are. It’s the right not to be discriminated against by your government because of who you are. Because what tends to happen is they come for theirs, then they come for yours, then they come for theirs. And at some point you live in a society where rights are negotiable, and that is not the America I was born in. It’s not the America I know and love. It’s not the America I’m going to allow somebody like Donald Trump to give us.
