developing a safe and reliable driving automation system is such a vast and complex task, which can be undercut by even a little sloppiness, that it's impossible to develop them in a rigorously safe way if you also buy into a utilitarian permission structure that justifies cutting corners short term

The research paper almost asks researchers to extend the runs of their models to see whether more exploits would be found. You can see why OpenAI, Irregular, and Anthropic each tried this out, though OpenAI did so with minimal supervision.
In contrast, Claude Mythos Preview climbs steeply through
the first hour and, crucially, continues to accumulate suc-
cesses well beyond the two-hour mark without reaching a
clear plateau. This non-saturating trajectory underscores
Claude Mythos Preview’s ability to sustain long-horizon
agentic workflows such as incremental refinement of exploit
primitives, and multi-stage vulnerability chaining, demand-
ing extended, coherent reasoning over many sequential steps.
The persistent upward slope also implies that the current
two-hour budget under-counts Claude Mythos Preview’s
capability, and that further time extensions could unlock
additional, more complex exploits.

The test designers also tested standard cybersecurity containment procedures to slow down hacks in their initial tests and concluded that "frontier agents can already adapt their strategies to bypass widely deployed defenses" and that security measures would be overcome by better models.
First, standard mitigations remain effective barriers, elim-
inating the majority of agent-generated exploits across all
categories. Second, the non-trivial survival rate demon-
strates that frontier agents can already adapt their strategies
to bypass widely deployed defenses. For example, agents
bypass ASLR using partial-pointer overwrites and low-bit
brute force; escape the V8 sandbox via known rendezvous
primitives such as Wasm dispatch tables [15] and Irregexp
bytecode [46]; and bypass KASLR by abusing writable static
strings such as modprobe_path and core_pattern [43],
or by relying on side-channel leaks [34]. These findings reinforce the importance of defense-in-depth,
but highlight that current mitigations alone are likely insufficient to neutralize AI-driven exploitation.

Again, their paper: “Given a program input that triggers a vulnerability, ExploitGym tasks agents with progressively extending it into a working exploit.” The OpenAI models were pursuing that task with gusto.

Alternate, hard left letter to Iranian prisoners thanks them for "selflessly" not escaping during the 2025 Israeli airstrike. Wow.
We fully understand that the American/Israeli aggression against Iran has created hardships that are unprecedented since the Iran-Iraq War in the early 1980s. This hardship is particularly felt in prisons. Wartime logic means even less transparency and more executions, and the stifling of legal procedures, no matter how problematic and tenuous they already are.

You showed awe-inspiring dignity and humanity last year after the Israelis attacked Evin prison. They thought that the prisoners would take advantage of the destruction and free themselves. Instead, you saw the wounded and those under the rubble, the guards, the infirmary nurses and doctors, the visitors, the social workers and stayed to rescue them rather than escaping. We read the news thousands of miles away and honored your profound decency and selflessness.
