In 2017, Criselda Vasquez painted this portrait of her parents and titled it "The New American Gothic." Last month, her father, the man in this portrait, was abducted by ICE after being in the US for 30+ years. The family is now struggling with bills. A GoFundMe has been started: gofund.me/456d8a193

And if you’re wondering whether you should come to the book tour, check out this delightful review from Taylor Books in Brooklyn 🤩 “Liberation through possibility” ‼️ #BookSky
My face and book cover along with review:
Out on April 7, 2026
Chanda's latest is perhaps
THE book for lovers of science, science-fiction, futurism, and liberation through possibility. She presents for us the event horizon as it exists in poetry, pop culture, queerness, black invention, and anti-colonial concepts of cosmic exploration. I'd liken the experience of reading this book to my first time reading Fred Moten's In The Break.
Chanda's approach to theoretical physics will
expand your POV in the most delightful way by confirming some things you didn't realize you already knew about the cosmos within.

Google, Meta and Reddit complied with some of the requests, the government officials said. In the subpoenas, the department asked the companies for identifying details of accounts that do not have a real person's name attached and that have criticized ICE or pointed to the locations of ICE agents. The New York Times saw two subpoenas that were sent to Meta over the past six months.

The tech companies, which can choose whether or not to provide the information, have said they review government requests before complying.

BREAKING: The Eighth Circuit blocks a district court injunction that had set limits on the Trump admin's Operation Metro Surge treatment of observers and protesters under the First and Fourth Amendments. There was one partial dissent (Gruender) on the three-judge panel.
Submitted: January 25, 2026
Filed: January 26, 2026

Before GRUENDER, SHEPHERD, and STRAS, Circuit Judges.
PER CURIAM.
The district court entered a preliminary injunction with respect to federal immigration-enforcement operations in Minnesota. The injunction is unlikely to survive the government's interlocutory appeal, see 28 U.S.C. § 1292(a)(1), so we stay it pending a final decision in this case.
