Nothing to celebrate here. It's a sad day. Combined, LNG Canada Phases 1 & 2 will have downstream carbon emissions roughly equivalent to TOTAL annual domestic emissions for all of BC. Phases 2 will only result in about 240 more permanent jobs. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

I sometimes post art here (knitting, pottery), but one of the tiny everyday things that also brings me a lot of joy is learning to fix and re-use things that I already own. Have recently been teaching myself knit repair.

One of my goals this year has been to write more - not more papers and grants, but more personal reflection, with less pressure to be perfect and polished. I’m grateful to @tnoc.bsky.social for providing an outlet for sitting with these thoughts, and I hope this helps someone else, too.

It’s bad enough that it tries to flatter you by telling you you’re asking such good and insightful questions. But desperately egging you on to try to make you spend more tokens is just gross. Like if every time you ran a mass spectrometer it tried to upsell you on some more advanced analysis.

Let's do some Canadian pipeline-wildfire math. The Canadian Energy Center says growing oil exports by 1.5M barrels/day **could** boost GDP by ~31B annually. Meanwhile, wildfire smoke health costs alone - just the health costs, nothing else - averaged 23B/year, past tense. And they're growing fast.
