holy shit did i accidentally cook with this

"THE LONG RECESS: A
CONTINUITY OF GOVERNMENT"

When a decapitating strike leaves the government headless, a retired Chief Justice, James Cromwell, is pulled into a mountain bunker to swear in a line of successors nobody expected to matter. A cynical fixer, Jeff Bridges, stage-manages the ceremony while a acting president, Meryl Streep, discovers the office was designed to be disposable. Hunting the men who orchestrated the strike, a bunkers silent chief engineer, Benicio del Toro, keeps the lights on for a government arguing itself to death underground.

the best thing about the portal 2 beta gigaleak is that it perfectly demonstrates the difference between people who think “the beta” is some secret finished version of the game the developers didnt release and people who actually know how the fuck game dev works.

A $3 @mta.info subway fare and some good Q train timing can buy you one hell of a view of the July 4th fireworks and the Brooklyn Bridge light show! Huge shoutout to the train operator for slow rolling over the Manhattan Bridge and the conductor for announcing it.

Interesting note about the third class: the reality was that they weren't really intentionally kept below or prevented from going up top, a lot of it was miscommunication and failure to tell them where they were supposed to go (not to mention the language barrier) #TCMParty #ANightToRemember

sort of worth noting for those who are unfamiliar with the RMS Californian aspect of the Titanic story (since it's not often included in other depictions) that #ANightToRemember gets it kinda right and kinda wrong (1/3) #TCMParty #TCM

since it's the last day of pride month I figured I'd at least make one thing for it... i now unveil to you my greatest invention: color bars pride flag

An LGBTQ+ pride flag formatted in the layout of the SMPTE "color bars" test pattern used for broadcast television. The first set of columns use the colors of the gay pride flag, with the addition of the original SMPTE color on the final column. The second set of columns contains two pride flags - the pansexual flag horizontally, and the asexual flag flipped and horizontal. The final set of columns contains the three colors of the transgender flag and the two POC-inclusive colors, followed by the original bar gradient from the SMPTE ECR-1-1978 pattern.

There's a lot of general anti-MTA-ness in this piece, which is odd considering eminent domain exists to grow railroads. I'm sympathetic to anyone getting displaced, but this article in particular takes a long time to get to the meat of the actual conflict: the landlord lied to his tenants.

Definitely a very hot take, with the exception of the Lincoln Tunnel express buses once the PABT is expanded. Buses continuing to have high ridership in Manhattan is not a subway policy or service failure, but rather some riders choosing a mode that is more convenient for the trips they're making.
