just checked and my oven is labelled in increments of 50C (from 50C to "MAX" which I have always assumed from context is 250C), with intermediate tick marks every 25C. I'm pretty sloppy with oven temperatures anyway, being within 25C seems fine (I'm not much of a baker and it shows?)

I didn't know this and it is somehow more horrifying than SPSS's handling of missing data

my TV has no physical power button, and sometimes its internal software decides to start ignoring input from the remote until I unplug the power cord and plug it back in. and it's old enough it's not a smart TV, can't even blame it on being internet connected!

agg23 commented yesterday
If it works, that's pretty cool; I didn't think
would ever see this implemented (I also didn't
expect LLMs to exist).
However, this is not something you can PR
here, or anywhere. You sent me a nearly 50k
line diff, unasked for, completely LLM built, and
you somehow expect me to review it. There is
SO MUCH unrelated garbage here. Never
minding all of the docs and Python, you've
somehow touched basically all of the upstream
HDL, which already had MSU1 support, so idk
what in the world you're doing.
This kind of behavior is not acceptable. You are
infringing on the time and brainpower of people
by pushing "your" content that little/no of your
brainpower went into; completely unrequested.
I hope for the sake of all responsible
maintainers that you do not do such a thing
again.
Again, I think it's cool that you and your LLM
supposedly got this to work. It has no place in
my world.

of all the methods for dealing with missing data, "keep asking until someone finds it, or finds out why it wasn't recorded" rarely appears in textbooks but can be SUPER EFFECTIVE in practice

📝 My paper on generalized additive models (GAMs) in animal science is out! Learn nonlinear relationships from data, estimate growth rates and compare treatments, with cows, pigs and quail + reproducible #RStats code. Open access: doi.org/10.1016/j.an... #mgcv #AnimalScience #Statistics 🧪
Eight panels show body mass over 78 days for 57 Japanese quail. Columns represent control, T4, T3 and combined T3–T4 hormone treatments; rows separate females and males. Coloured points are measurements, lines are individual growth curves fitted by a hierarchical generalized additive model, and shading shows 95% credible intervals. Growth slows towards a plateau, with females generally reaching higher body masses than males.Eighteen panels show individual pig growth curves. Black points mark daily average weight estimates from a depth camera; blue lines show curves fitted by a hierarchical generalized additive model, with shaded 95% credible intervals. Weights generally increase over time, with differences in growth and measurement variability among pigs. Uncertainty widens where measurements are sparse or absent.Four-panel comparison of models fitted to a cow’s average daily milk fat production. Observations rise to a peak around weeks 8–10, then decline. The first panel shows fitted curves and uncertainty bands for Wood’s model, a Tweedie GLM and a Tweedie GAM. Residual plots show curved patterns for Wood’s model and the GLM, but little remaining pattern for the GAM.

I feel conflicted about this. When I look at American hustle culture it doesn't seem particularly healthy! On the other hand, I was brought up with an implicit "you should be successful but never show any outwards indication of hard work" and that is also very bad.

Yes, but the outcome they've specified is constructed based on a combination of other variables which are themselves fine. There's scope to salvage this but it will require a A Conversation.

easy to say that when you're studying identical indistinguishable particles, much harder when you're studying humans or pretty much anything else in the natural world. (and even physicists need stats these days as their experiments have become more complicated!)

the great thing about having a 9-5 job that pays well is that you can use that money to live well and still find meaning in something other than your work. which is something that I realised too late in life because I did not grow up with great role models for "your job is not your life"

oh the See Also on this one delivers as well en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving...
"Prawo Jazdy" was an alleged Polish criminal supposedly active in the Republic of Ireland. The name was listed on PULSE, a computer system used by the Garda Síochána, with at least 50 traffic violations, including speeding and parking violations, recorded across the country, but there were suspicious aspects such as each incident being associated with a different address. "Prawo Jazdy" was also listed as a name on the Fixed Charge Processing System (FCPS). An investigation was launched into this person whom the Gardaí considered to be Ireland's worst traffic violator.[1][2][3]

An internal Garda memorandum in June 2007 revealed that, upon consultation with an online Polish–English bilingual dictionary, prawo jazdy was not a personal name, but instead the Polish term for 'driving licence', misidentified by Garda officers as the traffic violator's name due to the phrase being printed at the top right-hand corner of Polish driving licences (with the licensee's name and personal details printed beneath in a smaller text size). The error became public knowledge in February 2009.[4][5][6][7]

1. Introduction

In the 1988 sci -fi roleplaying game Cyberpunk , the European Currency Unit serves as the global currency (colloquially referred to as “euro dollar”, “ed" or “eddie”) . In the story, the dismantling of US
democracy, a sovereign debt crisis and geopolitical mistakes
trigger the collap se of the United States . The European Economic
Community steps in and uses its well -regulated banking system and
single currency to displace the dollar’s hegemonic role.
