EDL18 (the 2-6-4 tank) is where my model of 80097 (see post a while ago) started. It was probably three rail originally as the pickups are home made, although with new wheels and couplings I've no way of telling

I am of the generation that was entirely shaped by 9/11 and the GWOT. Our worlds changed irrevocably in ways we couldn't have imagined as young teenagers, watching the planes go into the towers. May all those who died - in the attacks, the wars, and their various terrible aftermaths - rest easy.

Some thoughts from me having just returned from speaking about regional security (😬) in the Gulf. The Gulf states are loudly pissed off with Iran, and more quietly so with the US and Israel. The UAE in particular feels personally targeted by Iran. They are, most fundamentally, tired of this shit.

Latest project completed. Hornby Dublo based model of a BR 4mt tank, numbered as 80097 which was seen on the Central Wales Line at least once. Tech specs in Alt.
A model steam engine, specifically a British Railways 2-6-4 tank in lined black and numbered 80097. I bought this as an unfinished project, the previous owner having rewheeled the chassis and removed the cast detailing from the body before filling in holes and redrilling for handrails, also fitting new buffers and some handrails. I finished the detailing and painted the loco black, then added transfers for the markings.

A comic of two foxes, one of whom is blue, the other is green. In this one, Blue approaches Green as Green is writing something, peering curiously at the paper.
Blue: What are you writing?
Green: An evacuation notice.

Blue looks at Green, puzzled, and Green looks back to him.
Blue: ...A what?
Green: The sink creature has returned.

Soon, the foxes are sitting beside the sink, and Green is reading aloud from the paper he wrote.
Green: Dear sink creature: Due to upcoming cleaning procedures, you are advised to leave.

Green carries on reading, while Blue looks at the sink in mild alarm, as the creature's yellowish green tentacles bust out of the sink.
Green: We will be pouring boiling water down the drain.
Sink creature: Uuugh fiiiine.

Right about now (BDST) W/C L.E. Healy, the AAEAF armaments officer, received a call from the Air Ministry reminding him that the 1000 lb bomb had not been cleared for use on the Hawker Typhoon. Healy replied with one of the finest memos of WW2. RCAF Typhoons had dropped 48 of them that morning.
Loose Minute - AIR 37/798 Typhoon Bomber

To: W/Odr. Ops. 7

You may consider the following to be of historical interest:

At 10.30 hrs today, an officer of the Air Ministry, Whitehall, telephoned to state that it was not yet possible for the Air Ministry to "clear" Typhoon aircraft for the carriage of 1,000 lb bombs and that the M.A.P. was being asked to carry out an investigation into the question.

As you are, no doubt, aware, we have for the past two months been fitting 1,000 lb. bomb racks to Typhoon aircraft, and the Typhoon carrying 2 x 1000 lb bombs is our primary weapon against certain tactical targets.

It was suggested to the Air Ministry official concerned that he might like to take the following action:-
(i)Try to stop A.E.A.F. from putting 1,000 lb bombs onto Typhoons.
(ii) Recover any 1,000 lb bombs which may already have been dropped by Typhoons and explain to the recipients that the bombs were dropped in error.

Three panels showing a bench on a small hill in London on a grey drizzly day. A man in a fedora carrying a suitcase arrives, then he is joined by a woman carrying an umbrella and a man in dark glasses reading a newspaper. They all look shifty and hurriedly converse:
"Good."
"Very."
"Agreed."
Then they all walk off down the hill.

Something lovely for the weekend! Minoan cups made by Bronze Age potters some 3,800 years ago! Heraklion Archaeological Museum, Crete 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo collage shows five cylindrical Minoan cups each with a single handle and a slightly flaring rim. Each cup is decorated with a different geometric polychrome motif as follows:

Top left: on a black background, a central band delineated by an upper and lower white line contains evenly-spaced dark-orange circles, each orange circle is outlined by a white line. Above and below the central band are swirling white vine-like lines.

Top right: on a black background, a large white spiral on the front of the cup and beside it a dark-orange oval with stylised white petals at each end which looks like a wrapped sweet!

Middle left: a central band of white and dark orange diagonal lines runs around the cup. Above and below the central band are alternating black and white diagonal shapes, the black ones look like shark fins

Bottom left: a central reddish-orange band delineated with a white line. Above the central band are swirling, spiralling white lines against a black background, and below the central band are alternating white and black diagonal lines.

Bottom right: all set against a black background. A central band delineated with white lines contains white ‘s’-shaped diagonal white stripes. Above the central band a row of red dots outlined with white circles. Below the central band a single white line on the black background.

This type of Minoan pottery is known as Kamares Ware, named after the Kamares Cave on Mount Ida on the Greek island of Crete where this kind of pottery was first discovered. Kamares Ware vessels were luxury items produced by palace workshops at Phaistos and Knossos on Crete. These five cups were excavated at Phaistos and are dated 1800-1700 BC.
