conventional wisdom for the entire time i've been programming has always been "less code is better". the idea that we must write more code faster is ridiculous. the problem has never been rate of output

It is no longer possible to experience any sense of accomplishment. Accomplishment is something a computer does for you.

I've been thinking about one of these readers but there's no easy way to put DRM content on there, right? Like if I rented an ebook from my library.. Where are folks getting epubs without DRM to use these things outside of piracy?

It's been days and I still can't stop being so bummed about the new Fontaines D.C. video having "AI" visuals in it. Come on man

say what you will about the myriad valid concerns with current LLMs but I personally will never get over the fact that Aaron Swartz was prosecuted to his literal death for downloading JSTOR and then a decade later, they downloaded & ingested the entire world and our IP laws just went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

a guy digitized some old 80s Italian ambient tapes and one of the guys who made the music saw it and swung into the comments to say thanks for doing this, we loved making music back then maybe we’ll do it again & man that’s a good feeling youtu.be/2XwkPbBtiAQ?...

Finished Hunters of DUNE. I'm not a real picky reader so I think it was fine. Def read a little like a fan fic and I miss the style of Frank's writing a bit. Traded a lot of weird horniness for violence. I kinda don't believe whatever "outline" that was found for this story was very substantive

clever way to get the super distant city lights in there!

Oh this is exciting I never even considered this could be a thing

calvin @calvins.pizza · 28/07/2026

Well that's a wrap on all of Frank's DUNE books... I guess I'll try and wrap up Hunters & Sandworms and then I'm freeeee

It seems like there's a type of guy that gets offended when the title of a song is not in the lyrics of the song

I love the movies but I definitely prefer the books, it's a hard thing to put to screen!

calvin @calvins.pizza · 08/07/2026

imo you're not supposed to care about Paul as much as you're supposed to understand the danger of a charismatic leader... I read them like historical fiction more than anything. you're not gonna find a lot of "good guys" in Dune; the politics and social evolution are the story

Censoring because I'm fearful of the gifs that might come my way if it was a quote. I'm dying lol

Screenshot of a blue sky post, a user actually typed:
"don't make me give you a Robert downy Jr eye roll gif...

a war of the freshest dankest gifs could kill us both"
