conventional wisdom for the entire time i've been programming has always been "less code is better". the idea that we must write more code faster is ridiculous. the problem has never been rate of output

It is no longer possible to experience any sense of accomplishment. Accomplishment is something a computer does for you.

It's been days and I still can't stop being so bummed about the new Fontaines D.C. video having "AI" visuals in it. Come on man

say what you will about the myriad valid concerns with current LLMs but I personally will never get over the fact that Aaron Swartz was prosecuted to his literal death for downloading JSTOR and then a decade later, they downloaded & ingested the entire world and our IP laws just went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

a guy digitized some old 80s Italian ambient tapes and one of the guys who made the music saw it and swung into the comments to say thanks for doing this, we loved making music back then maybe we’ll do it again & man that’s a good feeling youtu.be/2XwkPbBtiAQ?...

Finished Hunters of DUNE. I'm not a real picky reader so I think it was fine. Def read a little like a fan fic and I miss the style of Frank's writing a bit. Traded a lot of weird horniness for violence. I kinda don't believe whatever "outline" that was found for this story was very substantive

calvin @calvins.pizza · 30/07/2026

Oh this is exciting I never even considered this could be a thing

010

calvin @calvins.pizza · 28/07/2026

Well that's a wrap on all of Frank's DUNE books... I guess I'll try and wrap up Hunters & Sandworms and then I'm freeeee

Censoring because I'm fearful of the gifs that might come my way if it was a quote. I'm dying lol

Screenshot of a blue sky post, a user actually typed:
"don't make me give you a Robert downy Jr eye roll gif...

a war of the freshest dankest gifs could kill us both"

I just started this today, finished volume one. What an awesome and well executed vision for this setting and these characters. I was not prepared for just how subversive yeah amplifying it is to the mythology. Very cool.

The cruelty of the action (murder) and of the lack of political action is sickening. It keeps happening and I'm going to lose my mind. ICE, DHS, and their enablers should never see the light of day again.

010

calvin @calvins.pizza · 10/03/2026

imo a lot of devs are just always reaching for the next set of jangling keys with total disregard for actual ergonomics, opportunity cost, or process improvement. An excuse for never-ending tinkering to dull the monotony of the actual work. I'm not convinced it's any different with the LLM boom

020

calvin @calvins.pizza · 08/03/2026

Man I was just thinking about this it should be a legislative requirement that all LLMs "speak" via a TMS5100 or the like. Put one in every "NPU."

020

calvin @calvins.pizza · 06/03/2026

I am so bewildered by people's desire to have an idea and then ask an LLM for the end product. I have to imagine these are the kind of people who would hear about a good book and just read a plot summary to "save time." If you're so eager to get to the end state of everything why are you living.

It seems almost pointless to make a complaint about the sequel trilogy but this has still not left my mind. when would this hinged piece of shit ever make practical sense? This image should forever be the shorthand for "were out of ideas" but the content is too forgettable for it to stick
