Four hours with Elon Musk is more time than anyone should want to spend, but Alex Gibney’s latest is exhaustive and you probably already agree with it. MUSK uses the tools of the oppressor, perhaps because it already believes the end is here, and it’s too late. @seattlecritics.bsky.social

YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING. Could not imagine wanting to hear another second about Elizabeth Holmes, but as incredulous audience surrogate Nathan Fielder proved me dead wrong for 174 consecutive minutes. His electrifying new documentary with Lance Oppenheim knocked the wind out of me like nothing else.

I wrote about Lisa Cholodenko's High Art, out now on @criterion.bsky.social. In her directorial debut, she evokes an era while tackling timeless concerns. I only wish Radha Mitchell and Ally Sheedy had more similarly substantial roles afterward--though it's not too late. @seattlecritics.bsky.social

Disclosure Day serves as a preamble to a better Spielberg movie we already have, more aligned with the science fiction of the past than it is invested in the present or the future. The result is an antiquated hopefulness and faith in collective thought. @seattlecritics.bsky.social

Inconclusive feedback for you haha but it’s so interesting to me that Van Sant insists so wholly on making a small crime movie and doesn’t pull any punches, the stubborn refusal to make it bigger and more accessible is endearing, even though it’s simply a slighter version of Dog Day

The Oscars had a whole speech about how documentary directors are often at odds with their government and at risk of being murdered for their films. But Best International Films are still submitted by their governments, and the award goes to the country.

Bong Joon Ho hit me up for the squad you legend deadline.com/2025/11/bong...
Bong Joon Ho took a characteristically radical approach when questioned on his thoughts around the rise of Al technology at the jury press conference of the Marrakech Film Festival on Saturday.
The Korean director, who is president of the jury, gave two responses, one measured, the other deeply personal.
"My official answer is, Al is good because it's the very beginning of the human race finally seriously thinking about what only humans can do. But my personal answer is, I'm going to organize a military squad, and their mission is to destroy AI," he said.

Watching Our of the Past. So much beauty, in the actors' faces & bodies as well as in the photography & staging (as in a fistfight that plays out partly in the shadows combatants cast on a wall). Very adult in its understanding of attraction and how one choice can trap you for life.
