they’re charging for every 30 minutes of parking at my doctor’s office building now, a place that is currently 30 minutes behind schedule and asks you to arrive 15 minutes early. also the place with the dynacare blood clinic that has a 2hr+ wait almost every day. neat!

Through an FOI request, I got a copy of the unreleased Ottawa Speed Zone Policy Update (page 158). Lots to read through! sjamieit.github.io/files/A20260... They also included the existing 2009 Speed Zoning Policy, and it has some... interesting mocking and dismissal of complaints about speeding.

TL;DR If a resident complains about speeding on their street, they're exaggerating. It's impossible to speed on these streets, blow them off. If multiple residents complain or involve their councillor or the mayor, blow them off too. Don't bother seeing it for yourself, maybe just put up some signs.

Automated Speed Enforcement (aka photo radar) was a proven deterrent to speeding in school zones. Since the Province took it away, speeding has heavily increased, putting our kids in #CollegeWard and across the city at risk.

Disappointment at council today. Council just passed a motion from Councillor Menard for the Bank Street bus lane study which will restrict bus lanes even further from staff's proposed 3 hours to 2 hours. This means we will get no data about how parking affects bus flow in the area.

Motion brought forth to council by Councillor Menard, which sought to restrict the bus lanes on Bank Street from 3 hours in each peak direction to 2 hours.

Most seniors in Hong Kong do not own or drive a car, because they can get anywhere they want to with the city's robust public transport system at a taxpayer-subsidized cost of $0.26 per trip. My parents just take random day trips for fun. That is true freedom that American seniors will never have.
