Until it is absolutely mandatory for all health care providers, including carers,to be educated in severe #ME to be able to recognise it, then for all NHS trusts to implement safe beds, patients will continue to suffer and die with no redress for those who chose ignorance.

The Department for Work and Pensions has appointed Professor David Strain as its new Chief Medical Advisor. This is what he said at the inquest into the death of Maeve Boothby O’Neil from #ME I sincerely hope that he is reminded of these words he spoke under oath. He must work for changing this.

If a huge benefactor appeared who wanted to cure #ME where, with whom would they start? There is no central hub, no universally recognised governing body, just scattered bits of research, charities etc. Could it be made easier for a willing philanthropist to act?

This is what we are left with after all the efforts of advocacy, the published research and patient statements. This is the NHS website for #ME the first port of call for most people. It’s totally irresponsible in the way it downplays the severity of the illness. ME kills people.

Sadly this is the norm. Most of us cannot work and are very short of cash but with no real, trustworthy routes to helping or healing #ME we all fall for every scrap of hope we can find on the internet. Supplements, brain-retraining, lifestyle tweaks. We are the dream customer.

Our new Secretary for Health and Social Care. Yvette Cooper who had #ME in the early 2000s for a couple of years. She later attended a couple of APPGs and then apparently forgot. I sincerely hope she remembers how it felt now and acts favourably to #pwME.

Blame is society’s bulwark against the inevitability of illness. Anyone can become ill and not recover and yet the medical profession and society in general make patients feel as if their illness was due to their maladaptive feelings, or poor behaviour rather than lack of any effective treatment #ME

We’ve already got the 3rd highest defence spend in Europe. Far more than Norway, Sweden and Denmark where public spending on healthcare, education and infrastructure is rightfully prioritised. We are not an Empire any longer we and don’t want to line the pockets of US contractors
