There is a point in this video where the viewer is invited to pause and take up to 20 minutes to guess what the guy will say next. I would not have guessed it in that time.

It is *wild* to me that in the humanities there are top universities are still doing take-home exams. Apparently it's a cost-saving thing. I wonder if employers know, or whether they could start requiring disclosure, or whether grads might start saying on their CVs that they had closed book tests...

The idea that this would be a "catastophic burden" on the economy is a real zombie fact. Even on the worst case (and wrong) scenarios dreamt up by anti-migration think-tanks it is not close to "catastrophic".

Yes, and it is great. I love being able to buy 3-4 year old cars at a much lower price than I would otherwise be able to, and in much better nick than they otherwise would be. Motability is an example of the government using its power to drive town costs for basically everyone in society.

Sky News journalist thinks that a gov press officer including their pronouns and the generic "why this is important" link in their email signature is a threat to... civil service impartiality?? These people have gone completely mad.

Just got an email from a press officer at the Cabinet Office who has her pronouns in her email signature along with a link to an article saying we should all be doing the same thing
Is this the official position of the government? because if so | think we should knowSarah Drinkwater is it that big a deal?

"“we are all, well many of us, are certainly immigrants to some extent. My name’s an unusual one but I think my ancestors just caught an earlier boat than other people’s. This country’s been built by great immigrants" Robert Jenrick's first national campaign in Newark, 2014 byelection
In 2014, Jenrick entered parliament as, in the words of one Tory adviser, a ‘parody-level Cameroon blandy’. Or in the words of his former ally and mentor, former arch-Remainer Tory MP Anna Soubry, a ‘full-fat subscriber to David Cameron’. Nickie Aiken, the former Tory MP and leader of Westminster City Council, said: “I was quite surprised how militant he became as immigration minister as he has always been centrist”. He won the Newark by-election in 2014 by urging Labour and Lib Dem supporters to lend him their votes to stop the ‘extreme’ UKIP from winning. In that by-election, he said: “we are all, well many of us, are certainly immigrants to some extent. My name’s an unusual one but I think my ancestors just caught an earlier boat than other people’s. This country’s been built by great immigrants.” His idol Ken Clarke - the Europhile Tory grandee who represented the neighbouring Rushcliffe - was put on his election literature. Commenting on his victory, the young Jenrick said: ‘You win elections at the centre.’ Two years later, in 2016, he campaigned for Remain alongside Clarke. Jenrick even signed a letter ahead of the EU referendum, along with 16 other MPs, denouncing ‘Farage’s Britain’ as ‘angry, intolerant, limited [and] sepia-coloured’.

I've talked about this before, but it is very hard when you see how moral red lines are drawn, and the complete gutting of trans people's civil rights is entirely within an accepted norm and barely remarked upon even by many progressives.

There is a local anti-asylum/anti-migration protest in Shettleston, in the east end of Glasgow, involving perhaps a hundred people, with hoodies + masks (not the same kind of balaclava mob ... but a more local group), with some attempts to block roads leading to arrests.
