@ashleyrattner.bsky.social won an award tonight for her brilliant article about Benjamin Lundy in Early American Lit, but the real award was when she talked our septuagenarian & v cool tour guide into giving us a sneaky tour of the tunnels underneath the Oneida commune. He also let us into his apt.

foul balls are a huge concern for major league baseball. fans typically keep the ones they catch, and there's not exactly any good reason to buy a ticket to a baseball game if you have your own baseball at home you can look at anytime you want

Warde's original poem hangs in many printshops. It's got dogwhistling, triumphant all printing is noble/no acknowledgment of tech being just how it's used (eg Eisenstein on the printing press enabling witch hunts)...& was used to popularize serial rapist Eric Gill's work!? So I remixed it.

was a time to sneer-and men did sneer. But when ALL the brick-layers, and all the bookbinders, and all the cooks, and all the barbers, and all the machinists, and all the miners, and black-smiths, and printers, and hod-carriers, and stevedores, and house-painters, and brakemen, and engineers, and conductors, and factory hands, and horse-car drivers, and all the shop-girls, and all the sewing-women, and all the telegraph operators: in a word, all the myriad of toilers in whom is slumbering the reality of that thing which you call Power, not its age-worn sham and substance-less spectre, —when these rise, call the vast spectacle by any deluding name that will please your ear, but the fact remains, a NATION has risen! ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:
Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?
