The Waite Court has an unbelievable number of disastrous decisions related to civil rights voting rates, etc. Absolutely villainous.

I think I have introduced or summarized the case for dozens of folks over the last half-decade - people are stunned by that one, and it’s a wonder why it doesn’t have the same infamy as Dred Scott or Plessy.

My statement on the ICE shooting in Marble Hill ⬇️

"Today in Marble Hill, ICE agents fired multiple shots at a man in his vehicle while his 5-year-old child was in the back seat.
ICE's already unwelcome presence in our city has been growing more escalatory and dangerous by the day. Today's shooting is a grave development that requires a swift and immediate response to protect the safety of all New Yorkers.
First, we must have a full and independent investigation of this incident.
"There must also be a full and immediate release of all body camera footage of the incident.
In addition, the Target Corporation must stop offering their Bronx properties as private staging sites for ICE, in compliance with requests from New York officials. Target opening up large, active retail parking lots for paramilitary activity is unacceptable and places the entire community at risk.
ICE is a rogue, lawless paramilitary and surveillance agency.
It does not belong in New York City and it should not exist in the United States of America. Abolish ICE.”

It’s missing, “He stops breathing during his usual snooze while cabinet members stand behind him and dismiss questions from the press. Nobody notices for 10 or 15 minutes, at which point Dr. Oz frantically attempts to give him CPR and avoid fetching from his smell. Cameras roll the whole time.”

You have to hand it to the Times. When it comes to local stuff they are just so good at trolling 90 percent of their own readers while making the other 10 percent happy. I like to imagine that the Real Estate people and the Vows people have a scoreboard, like Legolas and Gimli in Lord of the Rings.

Trump's fundamental illegitimacy as President stretches out well beyond the basic fact of 14AS3. From Day 1, he has never intended to govern legitimately, to obey any law or custom other than his own insane whim, to accept the fundamental sovereignty of the People as a whole in any shape or form.

There is always room for someone to be worse. But, the other thing here is more important. Trump appointing new justices doesn't matter at this point. It's expand the Court or 30 years of fascism. There really aren't other options.

It is unacceptable for a world-class city like ours to allow its major natural history museum to close. We cannot allow it. My statement ⬇️
The text of Senator Saval's statement on the closure of the Academy of Natural Sciences museum. The words are in white on a blue background. Senator Saval's image is in the lower-right corner.

"For nearly two centuries, the museum of the The Academy of Natural Sciences has been the physical embodiment of a commitment to public natural history education. I was outraged to learn of the plans for its closure, both as a long-standing member of the museum and as an elected representative committed to the health and vitality of Philadelphia. It is unacceptable for a world-class city like ours to allow its major natural history museum to close.

The mismanagement of such a treasured asset is a profound insult to the residents of the city and to the incomparable workers and curators at the museum. We cannot allow it." The text of Senator Saval's statement on the closure of the Academy of Natural Sciences museum. The words are in white on a blue background.

"This museum is a place where generation after generation first became enthralled with our world, and as we face the enormity of the climate crisis and an unprecedented loss of biodiversity, the continuation of the museum’s legacy of marvel and care for the natural world has never been more urgent. Partners from all levels of government must unite in our efforts to see this vital work continue."

The Parti Québecois, a party whose hold raison-d'être is separatism, recently said they were putting all separation talk on the backburner for the remainder of Trump's term. Do you know how insane that is? Trump healed 200 years of Franco-Anglo tensions purely by being a giant asshole.

the media in this country treats bigotry coming from a place of fear as a valid public position. eventually this leads you to the ludicrous place where “the muslim mayor of new york city shouldn’t attend the 25th anniversary commemoration of 9/11” is treated as newsworthy opinion
"This guy, I think, is just an in-your-face type of guy that — for lack of a better word — enjoys this kind of controversy.
I'm just not in favor of him being around, so if he didn't come, I'd say great, we would go. But if he's going to come, I would venture to say a lot of people might not go," said Hughes, who is now retired and lives on Long Island.
The grieving father said he disagrees with Mamdani's politics and expressed anger toward the mayor. "Just the thought of him there rubs me the wrong way," he said.

AOC: I said this a couple of weeks ago: I would not be surprised if, when ICE funding started up again, we would start to see more civilian deaths at the hands of ICE. And that’s exactly what has happened. We didn’t see things like this happening with the same degree when we froze ICE funding.
