One of my favourite Ealing Studios films is on @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social this morning, 11:30am, Saloon Bar (1940). A great little murder mystery film set in a pub (most of the time). Directed by Walter Forde and starring Gordon Harker, Elizabeth Allan and Mervyn Johns.

Michael Powell was born on this day in 1905. He started his career in Nice working with director Rex Ingram in a range of capacities. For THE MAGICIAN (1926), based on Somerset Maugham’s novel, he worked as Ingram’s assistant - and as an uncredited actor (here with Gladys Hamer).
