Doug Wilson is the same pastor that Pete Hegseth platforms and states that Mormons shouldn’t be allowed to vote. www.sltrib.com/religion/202...
Small-town Idaho may seem like a strange place for an ambitious young coder, but he stayed there for a compelling reason. As Taylor explained on X in 2023, he lived in Moscow "in order to be part of a medium-sized church community." That community was the fiefdom founded by Doug Wilson, the self-proclaimed Christian nationalist pastor of Moscow's Christ Church. In a 2023 tweet, Taylor described Wilson as a huge influence on me regarding wealth." In an email to Mother Jones, Wilson said he first met a teenage Taylor when his family relocated to Moscow; Wilson described Taylor as "a go-getter." Taylor didn't respond to our request for comment on his relationship with Wilson and other details of this story.

Considering the crisis of the time, I'm surprised more people aren't talking about how prescient this was, especially as a debut novel. Do people not read Player Piano in high school anymore?

What people don't realize is that the #stochasticparrot argument is NOT the only conceptualization of how LLMs work! There are at least two others, and I talk about one of them in this post: reedhepler.substack.com/p/parrots-an... Another writer posited another explanation, I will try to find it.

Sure, I'm sure a linguist is totally qualified to frame her comments as fact regarding what are now multimodal models. It's a shame; her criticisms were much more reasonable in '23 when LLMs weren't multimodal, but now it's just grifting nonsense.

No, it's more like "it's in the public domain, so no one will sue us." It also doesn't hurt that it's in almost every #MusicAppreciation class ever, so it is *cultured* to like it, because everyone thinks THEY discovered it themselves.

One of my favorite episodes, obviously, is the #Mormon -centric one, when #Frasier gradually realizes to his HORROR that his new agent is a Mormon. He was even a member of the #TabernacleChoir. "When there's a dirty job to be done, you can't go wrong with a *Mormon*!" has me dying every time.

This concept sounds like the most outlandish thing. I think most people would fail at it. But this is magnificent. Ey makes it sound natural. And Tumblr is an excellent place to get WALLS of text. Why wouldn't social media be a place to get text to set to music? I'll have to ruminate on this idea.

These are the hazards of using 5 or 6 suppliers for your library services, especially if you are a smaller library! That being said, if you think Spydus is a "horrible CMS," you haven't used it enough. Loads cheaper and we replaced 5 of our previous subscriptions with it, including Springshare.

The funny thing is, at least when I was learning about open science in 2021, people knew this would happen. My instructor said, "for now things are good, but there is no way to stop someone from misusing or misinterpreting your data. It is a risk you have to be wiling to acknowledge and take."

@benjaminepark.bsky.social In your research on Skousen etc, have you come across the reasons for "Mormon cultural exceptionalism" that revived in the 1990s and has never really gone away since? Anne Frank posthumous baptisms, blatant changes to hymns, claiming Lewis was "unconsciously Mormon," etc.
