One quibble: While I greatly appreciate the versatility of the mighty mayocoba, al dente (slightly undercooked and firm) beans are not delicious. Choose a different bean for salad. An ayocote, perhaps.

It's creamy. It's got oomph. The versatile yellow bean from Peru that Mexican and Italian cooks love
Super-affordable and sold in bulk, Peruano beans are what Pizzana’s Danilele Uditi prefers over cannellini beans for his pasta e fagioli. Mexican cookbook author Pati Jinich loves them too

Nice to see the old Archeworks ship still sailing.
A squat building among high rises, the corner facing us looks like the prow of a ship, and a line of windows close to the roofline reinforces the effect.

The record album for Can’t Slow Down by Lionel Richie. Lionel is facing us, sitting backwards on a silver kitchen chair, wearing a light blue shirt, white pants and shoes. He’s in an empty living room with light blue walls and white carpet. The cool colors contrast nicely with his warm skin tone and dark hair. It’s quite a photo, really, which I’m only realizing having taken the time to write a caption.

Thank you to everyone sharing this story. We can only presume this agent will return to Chicago soon. Quite a lot that had to be left out for brevity's sake, but of note: he has repeatedly called the agents working with him "my guys," definitely indicating he's some kind of team lead.

Two Black mayors took cities that the country loves to write off and made them measurably safer. That’s not a fluke. That’s a blueprint. Chicago and Baltimore just posted numbers that should be front-page news. They’re not. We need to talk about why. 🧵 www.theroot.com/opinion-blac...

as a journalist who has been writing about surveillance and alprs for years, i’m glad to see concerns about flock have finally broken into the mainstream. but i think many folks are missing the bigger picture: the ways various tech works together to surveil us. chicagoreader.com/news/reader-...
Larger than any one technology are fears about the increasing collection and centralization of private data. The tendency in modern policing toward "data-driven" solutions purports to make law enforcement less violent, cops more efficient, and communities safer. In reality, the explosion of unchecked state surveillance has enabled police at all levels to amass troves of personal information on private citizens. Now, a new wave of tools, including BriefCam, seeks to use AI to make sense of it all. These programs are often administered in secrecy and without oversight, accountability, or evidence that they even work, as President Donald Trump has, in recent years, limited administrative safeguards and invested tens of millions into a surveillance state with reduced privacy rights.

A digital illustration based on a 1926 photo of actresses Merna Kennedy and Betty Morrissey (couldn't swear which is which). Two cute girls with short kicky hairstyles wearing similar outfits of sleeveless tops, voluminous 20s style shorts and kitten heels. The girl on the left is whispering closely into the others ear as she makes a scandalized face. Everything is cone in non-natural colors with loud patterns and textures. In a big circle over the heads of the two ladies is large script lettering, similarly gaudily colored and textured, that reads 'Maybe it will happen today'.

I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

I ask bc it seems to me that we're not going to stabilize democracy without pulling our info ecosystem out of its death spiral, which won't happen if the big platforms retain their monopoly control of social connections. But this appears to be the furthest thing from US leftist and liberal concerns.

I got a nice write-up from KQED! “Colored drips pour down the sides of his panels, but the surfaces are carved smooth with razor blades. The effect is gauzy, dreamy, even as the images he depicts and the language he deploys evoke violence—state sanctioned and otherwise.” YUM.
