The lake of DEATH! Dogs, birds, and other wildlife die within hours of contact with the water from Anderson Lake, 3 miles from where we're staying on the Olympic Peninsula. The lake has toxic algae blooms, including one in 2008 that set a world record for the highest concentration of anatoxin-a.

I'm finally coming to terms with the fact that, being back in America for a bit, a bowl of ramen will sometimes cost $35 ($45 with tax and tip!). But I will NEVER accept the check being delivered, and the waiter breathlessly expecting you to pay and leave, the second you slurp that last noodle.
