“The question is not whether we can afford to remain within the Convention [ECHR]. It is whether, in an increasingly dangerous world, we can afford not to” Political liars and lightweights, like Badenoch and Farage, must never be allowed to take that risk. www.lawgazette.co.uk/commentary-a...
The Law Society
Gazette

In short, if Britain were to leave the ECHR, it would not be
'taking back control. It would be surrendering influence over the rules and institutions that help keep us safe.
The debate about the ECHR is too often conducted as though it were a choice between national sovereignty and international law. That is a false choice.
The Convention advances British interests because it reflects British values: liberty under law, democratic government and the accountability of power.
Walking away would not make Britain freer. It would make Britain weaker.

I remember in 2024 we had the racist riots. In the end 1,103 ended up being charged. Now we have the same thugs walking the street every week, and trouble is sure to come. Why is it that only Palestine supporters and Just Stop Oil get a Police response. While hoards of thugs are ignored?

What I don’t understand about Labour is that they were willing to accept ‘the will of the people’ when the people didn’t know what the impact of the Tory Brexit would be, but now the people do know 1st hand what damage it’s causing they can’t accept the will of the people’ now they do know.

When Baroness Hallett concludes that there was no evidence of corruption or cronyism around the Covid VIP lanes, I suppose we have to believe her. But it's hard: 1) Isn't the fact of the VIP lanes in itself evidence of corruption? 2) Didn't they give contracts to friends, family and local publicans?

Do you think the press is this clueless? Did they really not see a strong Burnham win coming? Or did they push the version of events they themselves favoured? They’re not impartial. They decide who to promote, who to shun, who to scrutinise and who to wave through. They influence rather than report.
The British Press is Deeply out of Touch

The final big lesson from this result is how deeply out of touch most of the British media is with what is actually happening in the country.

At the start of the Makerfield campaign, most publications quickly published pieces about how the constituency was "turning to Reform" despite it being obvious from the start that Burnham had a very good chance of winning. As it quickly became clear that this was the case, the press instead turned towards the narrative that the contest would somehow be
"gifted" to Labour by Rupert Lowe and his far-right Restore Britain party splitting the vote on the right.

In reality not only did Burnham win more votes than Reform and Restore, but he won more votes than all other rival parties combined.
This huge win was an outcome that almost no commentators saw coming, despite almost the entire British press decamping en masse to the constituency.
