The bigger movement in the data over the past quarter-century is at the other end of the age spectrum: A reliable base of older Conservative Party voters is largely gone.

Excited to share this new piece with @semrasevi.bsky.social in @ca.theconversation.com, the "young Canadians are drifting right" story doesn't hold up. The real shift? Conservative support among seniors just fell to a 25-year low. Youth support barely moved. theconversation.com/young-canadi...

This really is a must read for anyone in academia.
When my business school colleagues insist that ChatGPT is “just another tool in the toolbox,” I’m tempted to remind them that Facebook was once “just a way to connect with friends.” But there’s a difference between tools and technologies. Tools help us accomplish tasks; technologies reshape the very environments in which we think, work, and relate. As philosopher Peter Hershock observes, we don’t merely use technologies; we participate in them. With tools, we retain agency—we can choose when and how to use them. With technologies, the choice is subtler: they remake the conditions of choice itself. A pen extends communication without redefining it; social media transformed what we mean by privacy, friendship, even truth.

This gets at the fundamentally flawed approach of the federal government: they are trying to find a policy solution to an identity problem. It is part of the polarized, populist identity to be opposed to an Ottawa and Liberal Canada are not them. No policy will change that, as TMX revealed.

A detailed report on the pilot experiment is here: drive.google.com/file/d/1IEG6... The majority of our sample comes from marginalized backgrounds, where the cost of prepping, taking, and sending GRE scores would have the most impact in terms of time and cost. Here is a Likert scale result:
This is a chart showing school preferences for PhD programs. Participants answered whether "I would apply to this school" describes them with higher scores indicating it describes them better. In this chart, all non-GRE schools score higher than the GRE required schools on this item. GRE schools had significantly lower preferences than non-GRE schools matched on all other characteristics.
