It was an honor to perform this very chilling and poetically rendered story. "Foreign Objects" alludes to atrocities committed by the US military in Vieques, Puerto Rico. How beautiful to render it this way, with our many voices.

a wonderful editorial from @subhapa.bsky.social to finish our Indigenous Rights spotlight: "one common question stands out for me: Who gets to decide? While recognition as an Indigenous people is a critical first step for any Indigenous community, it does not always translate to decision-making."

As I read through the pieces Global Voices’ authors contributed to the August 2026 Spotlight series, “Indigenous Rights,” one common question stands out for me: Who gets to decide?

CACIQUES is a novella about the future of Puerto Rico. It blueprints what a liberated Borikén might look like, a future where are beaches are own and water is abundant rather than rationed. When Afro-Indigenous heritage is centered rather than rejected. CACIQUES is our future return to ourselves.
The cover art of the indigenous science fiction novella CACIQUES. A pale woman lies on the ground warming herself with her arms as the golden disc of the sun rises behind her in a burnt orange sky. The font is written in a golden ink.

The best way to support authors you love is to preorder their books. If that isn't an option for you financially, reach out to your local library expressing interest in forthcoming titles. For indie and smaller presses, sales keep the publisher's doors open.

Sometimes science fiction can predict aspects of the future. In the case of my story "Scelerat", what rings perhaps more true than when I wrote it is the mounting energy crisis associated w/ AI. In this near-future scenario, nuclear reactors used to power 🤖 fail, turning much of 🇺🇸 into failed states

Ex Partum is a near-present science fiction novella that charts an unsettling course for the future, a quiet dystopia that emma burnett sketches with suffocating intensity.
