When Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government proposed overhauling environmental assessments and major project approvals last spring, they were warned against centralizing power and infringing on Indigenous Rights. Critics say Bill C-39 does just that.

Ford government to allow ‘bring-your-own’ alcoholic beverages at outdoor public events
By Richard Southern

Posted March 17, 2026 6:30 am. Last Updated March 17, 2026 6:31 am.
It will soon be bring-your-own-booze in Ontario.

The Ford government will soon be allowing provincial residents to bring their own alcoholic beverages to outdoor public events, 680 NewsRadio has exclusively learned.

Starting on April 30, Ontarians can bring their own booze to municipally designated cultural or community events, including farmers’ markets, movie screenings, art exhibits, and neighbourhood festivals. Currently, only organizers of live sporting events can obtain this type of tailgate permit.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has about 4,500 employees. "Employees were called into an all-staff town hall yesterday, where they learned that 1371 jobs would be affected by employment transition measures, and 587 would be cut altogether as part of the Carney government’s austerity measures."
“When you make cuts to food safety, the outcomes are clear. More people will get sick from preventable foodborne illnesses, more poultry and livestock will die from avian flu and other diseases, and our food production industry will suffer,” says Milton Dyck, National President of the Agriculture Union. “Our members at CFIA care for the health and well-being of plants and animals and make sure the food on your plate is safe to eat. They deserve more than these reckless cuts. Canadians deserve more.”

While the federal public service grew by 30% in recent years, staffing levels at CFIA have declined by 3% over the last decade. This while accelerating climate change is multiplying food safety risks, the Trump administration has gutted the US Food and Drug Administration, thereby throwing the quality of American food imports into doubt, and the CFIA itself admits it is ill-equipped to handle multiple emergencies at once.

“Fewer CFIA inspectors means fewer frontline workers to catch food that should be recalled,” continues Dyck. “And food recalls increased by 150% over the last decade. You can do math, and it doesn’t look good. Food safety experts have been warning us that CFIA can’t take any more hits, but the government isn’t listening. They are putting short-term savings over the health of our country.”

Doug Ford's conservative government is proposing the the biggest attack on Ontario renters and rental affordability in a generation. Not only would landlords be able to evict tenants without cause, but rent control in units built before 2018 would effectively be over. (See last row in the image.)
Text of table from newly proposed legislation. The heading says "Fighting Delays at the Landlord and Tenant Board." The bottom right box says the "Future State" of "Lease Agreement Expiry" would be "The government would consult on alternative option on lease agreement expiry that could allow landlords to control who occupies their units and for how long, allowing them to adjust tenancy agreements based on market conditions, personal needs, or business strategies. This would add flexibility for some landlords in the approach to leases, potentially unlocking additional rental unit stock."
