Damn 🔥 Ed’s dead baby, Ed’s dead. #EdSheeran
At worst, Sheeran – who has always been open about his commercially minded approach to pop – looks like a corporate shill; at best, wilfully naive. Sheeran loves to dabble in the music of other cultures to present a toothless pan-global vision of togetherness lifted from the latter-day Coldplay playbook. But you can’t play with the aesthetics of global music without also being willing to engage in the lived reality of those cultures.

Ha ha ha Ed you cowardly hypocritical loser.
Sheeran explained that he doesn’t use his platform for politics in order to be “a place of safety and sanctuary, to maintain diplomacy and keep conversations open”. Though this isn’t accurate: he performed at the Concert for Ukraine in 2022, signed an open letter to Theresa May about Brexit, endorsed Jeremy Corbyn and supported the equality act in the US.

Unpaywalled version of the story. This kind of abuse is so common that in the US it's called "running a plate for a date". www.rte.ie/news/courts/...
The investigation involved the seizure of Flanagan’s mobile phone and it showed that Flanagan had 2,212 screenshots of PULSE records on his mobile phone.

The garda investigation uncovered chats between then-garda Flanagan and Meere which shows Meere over a nine-month period making requests of Flanagan to get the names of registered owners of cars driven by females he had seen at different locations from the registration plates provided by Meere.

Meere’s wife was in court to hear the State lay out the details of the case.

In one exchange between Flanagan and Meere, one female car owner is described by Meere as "a blonde from Feakle and a cracker".

In another exchange, Meere, after seeing a profile picture on Facebook of a female driver, said "her profile picture isn’t too shabby - like her pants were painted onto her".

In response, Flanagan said: "She has some arse on her now to be fair. She is a teacher now" and in response Meere texted back, "she can teach me anything she wants to teach me".

I loved this pterrific story about Daria and her dino-enthusiast best friends, an overly curious professor, and a flock of tiny Pterodactyls that have escaped from her bedroom! It's a race against time for this trio of friends, and fantastic illustrations add to the drama.

Recommended by Vivienne, Dubray RathminesThe book alongside its fellow picks for August, by Max Porter and Cecilia Ahern. I tell you what if this were a podium, Project Dino would be in the gold position. Just sayingIn the shop window with too many other books to name

The photo is one I took during a long coastal walk of the Daymark, a brutalist Victorian shipping tower in Devon, UK. It's old, mysterious, seems a bit like it's from outer-space, likes being near the sea, and looks like it could be a great psychedelic record cover so I think it quite sums up the writing on my website, which I wanted to invite new followers here to have a look at via the link above. There's absolutely LOADS on there, much of it readable for free, if you decide to sign up for the emails where I send it out. I deleted my Instagram account today and it's my hope that I can soon get to the stage where Bluesky is the only social media I use and everything else goes to people via my site, without idiot algorithms getting in the way. Which will ultimately give me more time to write (I hope). My suggestion is that you sign up for the free package then, if you like it, you can always support my writing by signing up for the paywalled stuff too. I've offered a choice of prices, starting at less than £2 per month, so hopefully everyone who really wants to read everything I write will be able to afford it.

When Lucy from Compass Books in Dartmouth, Devon, was victim to shoplifting people told her to install CCTV. Instead she put this ancient book thief curse on the wall from the Monastery of San Pedro in Barcelona so book stealers would be consumed by "the flames of hell" with "their members blasted".
A Curse Against Stealers Of Books
For him that
stealth a book from
this place, let it
change into a
serpent in his hand
and rend him.
Let him be struck with
palsy,
& all his members
blasted.
Let him languish in
pain crying aloud for
mercy, & let there be be no surcease to his
agony till he sink to
dissolution.
Let bookworms gnaw
his entrails in token of
the Worm that diets not,
& when at last he
goeth to his final
punishment, let the
flames of
hell consume him
forever & aye.
