I’ve been working on single stair reform for years. HAC sponsored a bill in Sacramento this year and we’re honoring leaders from Culver City on Single Stair reform. Any framing that this is single stair reform in SF is factually inaccurate. @jkdineen.bsky.social

This is unbelievably stupid. This would be like if when AI finds the cure for cancer some biologists lament that it was done too quickly or "the wrong way". Even if the discovery doesn't save lives (and math does, just very indirectly!) finding truth is a good unto itself.

Just got my property tax bill and I would like to share an image of what California would look like if Prop 13 were abolished and every freeloading, deadbeat Boomer homeowner paid the same amount in taxes as I do.

That was only because I hadn't placed my order yet, but that has been fixed! Remember kids, Amazon can do no wrong! Cull the weak and ineffective businesses that are less customer obsessed!!!
Bobby bought a copy of Build or Die by Ned Resnikoff on Amazon because he is cool.

As you can see in the graph, there is a visible bend in the curve as a result of so many people riding the D

It's okay to learn from everything, and train on everything. That's everyone's birthright, and we shouldn't apologize for it. Prohibitions on copying were a late invention, and a narrowly tailored one. They do not express a general ethical law that all information ought to be priced and paid for.

The thing is like. This *is* the future I was promised. And it's so beautiful. And it's just gonna keep becoming moreso. And I'm so happy. And I'm so excited. And I'm so glad I get to be alive for this.

This. You should hate Musk because he's a racist piece of shit, but you aren't doing society or yourself any favors if you pretend that Tesla and SpaceX aren't some of the most impressive companies ever. You have to deal with that juxtaposition and support the non-racists who do amazing things.

Why don't you just do it? I don't know if you know how to code, but if not, Codex or Claude Code can probably one-shot something like that at this point. Plus I'd use it!

LA is HOT. But does it have to be this hot? Did you know shade from a single tree can drop temps by 20° or more? Yet working-class neighborhoods like South LA, East LA, and the Valley get the least tree coverage and bear the brunt of extreme heat. Let's finally cool things down for everyone.

Sort of insane fact about how broken US urban planning is—America now spends more building *just the lights for roads and highways* than on all subways & ground mass transit combined Spending on roadway *pavement* is 18x transit spending

Listen: I don’t want to minimize the danger of high e-bike speeds. But if the problem here is that stores sell e-bikes that can drive faster than legal limits, then where’s the story about how literally *every car dealership has been doing the same thing for decades*?!?

When I was his constituent I would constantly shit on Obernolte for being a fossil fuel shill, so I should also give him credit for being one of the biggest fusion champions in Congress. Can't say he's inconsistent, the man genuinely loves energy.

We need automated traffic enforcement desperately in California given that our police departments refuse to enforce the law and when they do, cannot refrain from being violent. But there are thousands of problematic drivers on our roads and we need to ID them in order to suspend their licenses.

People mistakenly believe that unfunded inclusionary zoning is a way to tax developers and rich people to fund subsidized housing for the poor. It is not. In reality, it’s a tax on working and middle class renters. Actual rich people, who overwhelmingly own single family homes, pay nothing at all.

This is a remarkably lazy argument. Subsidizing cheap gas just guarantees continued car dependency. The true financial anchor dragging down the working class is living in a society where expensive private vehicle ownership is a mandatory tax just to exist.

we could solve the western water crisis overnight by simply charging alfalfa farmers market rates for water
Across the basin, alfalfa hay uses more than 5 million acre-feet of Colorado River water — that's 26% of all the water consumed in the basin. One acre-foot roughly equals the annual water use of two or three households.
In the Upper Basin, irrigated agriculture consumes 2.8 million acre-feet, or nearly half the water used by Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, the environment, reservoirs and water exports out of the basin. Cattle-feed crops, like alfalfa, consume 90% of all water used by Upper Basin agriculture.
That means alfalfa uses more water than cities, commercial users and industries across the entire basin:
Collectively, these users consume about 3.5 million acre-feet, or 18%, of the river's water. The Colorado River

Everything that makes my dinner spot in Spain charming is illegal in most of the US: - zero parking - no setbacks - mixed use - single-stair buildings - a street width most fire departments wouldn’t allow I think it should be legal to build this in any US city, by right.
