Every police chief or sheriff's statement re: joining the 287(g) program includes: - Nonsense about community safety. - Reassuring the community this doesn't change anything. - Eventually admitting they're getting paid absurd sums by DHS for performance-based activities.

Even for cross-pressured/hesitant LLEAs, "better you than ICE" seems a message tailored perfectly to their paternal thin-blue-line self-image? Always funny when one of those simultaneously offers that line and the "we're not doing anything we wouldn't be doing anyway" one in consecutive breaths.

We've heard this from PD chiefs and sheriffs in states across the country: if we sign a 287(g) agreement, the masked ICE goons will stay away! Cooperate in advance and maybe they'll just forget we're here.

How that supposed "bargain" has played out in the state which has most embraced 287(g) Task Force Model agreements, the moment ICE had the money to not have to rely SOLEY on those state and local law enforcement officers it had deputized. Always was going to be "And", not "Or".
Line graph of monthly immigration arrests in Florida, broken out by "287(g) Program" in orange, rising to more than 1,000/month after July 2025 and spiking further after April 2026, and "At Large Arrest" in blue, rising to more than 1,500/month in spring of 2025 before falling below the 287(g) Program levels until June 2026, after which it skyrockets to 3,000/month.

A welcome change to see Dems go left on immigration, something Obama didn't do until pushed by DACA activists and Biden didn't either. We need to see a full-throated defense of immigration as a good thing, and not just on economic grounds. Talarico is doing that. Hope more Dems follow.

SCOTUS’s shadow docket strikes again. Third-country removals are back on, using a policy that two federal courts have now ruled is unlawful.
CORDER LIST: 609 U.S.)
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2026

(26A406)
CERTIORARI GRANTED

The application is also treated as a petition for a writ of certiorari, and the petition is granted. The parties are directed to brief and argue the following questions: (1) Whether the district court had jurisdiction over Respondents' claims.

Might just be well-publicized issues with our field office, but (by anecdotal public reports and vehicle traffic in/out of the field office) it has already felt like that specifically has ebbed a bit the last week or so? Statements seem not inconsistent with that, even if spun to their audience? 🤷‍♂️

What seemed to distinguish the surge here in Florida since June, for example, was the sheer number of not just "collateral" arrests of opportunity, but a dedicated operation by ERO to go out & patrol while e.g. running plates through DAVID or stopping non-Caucasians at random.

This is an important paragraph in the AP article doing the rounds today. Shows the continued importance of litigation. Adelanto, Whipple, Federal Plaza, Broadview.
The practice does not apply to detainees held at a detention facility in Adelanto, California or at temporary holding facilities in Minneapolis, New York City or suburban Chicago, the sources said. Judges have ordered ICE to list detainees in those facilities in the online locator promptly upon their arrival, as part of litigation over their detention practices.

Oversight Dems
@OversightDems
🚨 We have received whistleblower reports alleging dangerous conditions and serious mistreatment of detainees at two ICE holding facilities in Miramar and Orlando, Florida. Some of the allegations at these facilities include:

—A woman who was seven months pregnant was detained for three weeks.
—A person with hypertension was detained for 17 days.
—A person in their 60s with several vascular disorders including hypertension and blood clots was detained for 15 days.
—A person in their 60s with HIV/AIDS was detained for more than 14 days.
—The Miramar facility was at one point 600% over capacity, holding 342 people at a 50-person facility.
—Cells at the Miramar facility are significantly overcrowded, regularly reaching 200% to 300% over capacity.
— More than 100 people have been forced to sit and sleep on the concrete floor of the sally port, a large warehouse-like structure without proper ventilation, at the Miramar facility.
—When sleeping in the sally port at Miramar, detainees are fully shackled in handcuffs, leg irons, and belly chains.—Because of overcrowding in the Orlando facility, at times detainees are only able to stand in holding cells.
—Detainees are held under bright lights 24/7.
—People at the Orlando facility have been detained for up to two weeks at a time without seeing the light of day or breathing fresh air.
—Consistently clogged toilets have led to urine and feces overflowing onto the floor of the holding cell at the Miramar facility.
—Facility management has refused to service the portable toilets at the Miramar facility, leading to people tracking urine and feces on their shoes all day.
—Hygiene products including soap, hand sanitizer, and menstrual products are limited or not provided at the facilities.
—Detainees at both facilities are forced to wear the same unwashed clothes, including underwear, for weeks at a time.
—At Orlando, black mold is visible in the air vents and individuals have reported respiratory discomfort and headaches.
—Both facilities are severely understaffed. At Miramar, at times only three officers have been left to supervise more than 300 people at times.—Due to insufficient staffing at the Orlando facility, staff were initially instructed to shackle people for 24 hours a day.
—Staff at the Miramar facility have shackled elderly people with serious health issues and limited mobility for 16 hours a day.
—Officers have been forced to rely on 911 for all medical care as there are no medical staff onsite. However, officers at the Miramar site were instructed to stop calling 911 for non-emergency situations.
—Individuals at the Miramar facility have reported chest pain, fainted, and become sick, with one detainee throwing up blood.
—Legal access and family communication are generally restricted.
—The Orlando facility deleted booking records for people they accidentally detained against court orders.
—Both facilities have attempted to hide these horrible conditions from members of Congress performing oversight.
—Leadership has threatened retaliation against officers who speak out about these conditions.
—A White House official allegedly visited the Miramar facility, suggesting that the administration is aware of these conditions.
