@astroroyalscot.bsky.social. Hello Professor Heymans, I am interested in Scottish heraldry and wondered if you make use of, or would ever plan to use, the coat of arms of theAstronomer Royal of Scotland?

This display of coats of arms and flags could well have been one of the most colourful sights amongst the already incredibly colourful Edinburgh Tartan Parade! A very stirring image from a celebratory occasion.

Here we go for #Heraldecember2025! #heraldry #Heraldecember 1. Counterfeit
A watercolour painting of a green shield, on which is a yellow set of scales. In the right pan of the scales are a spindle, shears, and some thread wound round a stick. The thread tumbles along the bottom of the shield. There is some very scribbly writing giving the date and title which are in the main post.
The prompt today is 'Counterfeit' so I've stretched the pronunciation of that word to 'Counterfate', an amalgamation of counterweight and fate. Yep, it's a bad pun in painted form - welcome to the concept of 'canting' arms! Blazon: Vert, a set of scales with the sinister pan containing symbols of the Three Fates Or

A photograph of heraldic stained glass. A central shield is surmounted by a golden coronet and surrounded by a circular golden halo decorated with leaves. The shield is divided into quarters. The upper-left and lower-right of these each display a gold background upon which is found a red lion in rampant posture within a double-border pierced by fleurs-de-lys in the same colour. The upper-right quarter displays three white lions in rampant posture upon a red background. The lower-left quarter shows three red isosceles triangles, meeting at the top and pointing straight down, upon a gold background. Outside the halo is a regular diamond pattern of plain glass.

Arms of an online acquaintance painted by me, featuring millet as the main charge. There are at least four things I would do differently, but other than that, it's not a terrible rendition. #heraldry
a blue shield with three stalks of millet. the top bit is 'silver' aka white with three blue stars each with four points. the line separating the blue and white is zig-zag.
In heraldry speak: Azure, issuant from point three stalks of millet Or, on a chief indented Argent three mullets of four Azure

Joining with thie year's #Heraldecember every day until I forget #heraldecember2024 #heraldry 1. Rhapsody
a picture of a white shield, on which are five thin black bars and three blue 'water-bougets'. The drawing prompt for today is Rhapsody, and the water-bougets going upwards are meant to look a bit like musical notes, alluding to the famous clarinet glissando at the start of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue - but you had guessed that already, hadn't you?
