We are not animals!” Madame Cecilia of the famous Rose Garden theater, sauntered to and fro backstage as dancers skittered to their positions and stagehands and tech got ready to move rigs and set lights in place. Today was the ballet performance of La Bayadère and nothing could go wrong. Madame Cecilia only had the best of the best performances for the elitist of the elite. Her theater was a well oiled machine. All who worked there knew their place and knew it well because all who worked there knew not to upset the Madame. For the Madame had her hands in many pies and crossing her was nothing short of dangerous. “And where the hell is that appraiser? He was supposed to be here twenty minutes ago with my newest collection of jewelry.”
“Madame.” A small woman with a more polished business look compared to Madame’s extravagance, cleared her throat to get the taller woman’s attention.
“Oh, Lovey there you are. It’s a disaster. My jewelry collection-!”
‘Lovey’ as the Madame called her right hand assistant, adjusted her glasses and quickened her short legged pace to keep up with the pacing woman. “Pierre - the appraiser - I had the boys take him out back.”
“Oh,that’s right. He needed to be reminded who he worked for. Did he learn his lesson?”
“Well, Madame. He’s dead.”
“Wh-?! I didn’t say that we had to kill him!”
Lovey nodded, unperturbed by the outburst whereas everyone else close by gave the Madame a wide berth. “Yes, Madame. I’m aware. However, I thought it best that if he couldn’t keep his fingers to himself, then there was no use keeping his life. His. . . eyes were bigger than his stomach, as they say. Your collection is safe and accounted for. I’ve already called for another appraiser to be here in less than twenty minutes.”
Madame Cecilia stopped.
