The other plausible mechanism would be inhibited/altered immune response that seems to be (weakly?) associated with Covid But good luck getting compelling data to show such a relationship

Bart Janssen @bjjanssen.bsky.social · 8h
That kind of connection will only really become possible to see after a lot of data is collected over a long timeframe So my guess is IF there is a relationship then we'll have to wait for several years to get good data and it would need really good records But it's plausible

Such a big scary number - right But wait over 25 years? Folks take out mortgages over 30 years to get shelter and power and water that are MUCH larger - and that's without the low interest rates that councils get However, 3-Waters would have been cheaper with even lower govt interest rates

I huge amount of the problems with AI can be dealt with by simply applying laws and regulations we already have eg environmental harms from data centres
020
Bart Janssen @bjjanssen.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
I think AI needs regulation BUT That regulation has to focus on outcomes not technology Both because regulating the tech - prevents any good use And because tech will change too fast for regulations - making the legislation outdated www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

But ACT got its Ministry of Regulation and it was ACT that wanted a smaller state sector and massive reduction of government spending That the "principles" bill didn't pass was irrelevant to the social damage it caused which was always the aim

The goal of neoliberalism was never to "roll back the state" but to degrade society in order to produce corporate dependency. This is done by ensuring all state functions are placed in private hands, becoming another vehicle for wealth extraction beyond democratic accountability.

Sorry, I'll explain. We currently react to inflation by reducing the disposable income of spenders so that demand falls and unemployment goes up. We use a bufferstock of unemployed people to keep workers desperate, so wages are suppressed and we don't get a feedback loop (wage 🔄 prices) [🧵 1/n]

So assuming the frequency of positives remains the same Then from the 10000 random tests we can expect 30-40 positives So the question I have is - which company will do the tests and how much did they donate to National? This isn't about drugs or beneficiaries - it's corruption

Elysia crispata are also called "lettuce sea slugs". They utilize 'kleptoplasty', stealing chloroplasts from macroalgae. But the name 'crispata' means "frilled", referring to how it looks like a 1970's tuxedo shirt. Here the fun bit: it's an animal that evolved LEAVES. Let's talk about it!
From a sea slug forum, an Elysia crispata showing purple and orange fringed animal with dark black and white spots on the body. it's on a bit of coral with some algae lawn beneath it.

If you really want to get "more people off welfare and into work", consider not tanking the economy. That typically works better than performative cruelty.
The party also promised:
to provide "intensive, work-focused support" for 30,000 jobseekers who have been on Jobseeker for more than a year, with more funding for employment programmes that support young people into work.
lowering the rate of payment for those who had been on the benefit for two of the previous three years, from 1 April 2028. There would be a smaller reduction for households with dependent children.
those who repeatedly leave employment without good and sufficient reason would face a 26-week non-entitlement period, up from 13 weeks.
from 1 April 2028, the minimum residence period to qualify for main benefits will increase from two years to five years.
Upston said the party was focused on "getting more people off welfare and into work".
