The transcription factors in a retinal stem cell bear little or no resemblance to the Yamanaka factors. It’s highly likely that this would lead to oncogenesis rather than cure aging. 9/n

Unfortunately, media has taken the upper bound of one model estimate (among many) and run with it to say Lake Sturgeon *could* live for over 400 years. This isn’t necessarily what the science says, and methods used are somewhat tenuous. Several other fish aging experts agree it’s an overestimate.

Wile E. Coyote Finally Kills Road Runner Then Immediately Wishes He Hadn’t
4 panel comic

Panel 1: Wile E. Coyote has finally murdered Road Runner by crushing him under a massive boulder

Panel 2: Wile celebrates his long sought after victory

Panel 3: Wile steps out from behind the boulder and is immediately confronted by Columbo who says “Mr. Coyote” in his typically annoying but persistent manner

Panel 4: Columbo calls his name again. Panicked, Wile retreats quickly behind the boulder, but in his heart of hearts, he knows it will do no good. In about two hours he’ll be going to prison. And not cartoon prison. Human prison.

Our people are tired of being afraid, of hiding in bathrooms and corridors, waiting for the worst. So today, we celebrate life, our flag, our city, and our freedom. These are our people, who live and work under constant threat of death, the never-ending drone buzz, and regular explosions.

Today in 1868, Darwin wrote to a friend, "It drives me mad & I know it does you too, that one has no time for reading anything beyond what must be read: my room is encumbered with unread books." 📚🧪
Black-and-white photograph of Charles Darwin’s library and study. Tall bookshelves packed tightly with books cover the wall on the right, while stacks of papers and volumes spill across tables and lower shelves. In the foreground, a large desk is cluttered with notebooks, loose papers, glass bottles, and oil lamps. A tall window on the left lets in soft natural light, illuminating plants and scientific objects near the sill. The room feels crowded, scholarly, and heavily used, with signs of active research and writing throughout.

I'm sorry, what? In writing my first monograph, I spent six weeks trying to track down a citation in TWO languages I didn't know. And good thing too, because the citation was wrong. That's scholarship. That's research. You know, the thing we're trained to do?!?
The reactions of some researchers on Twitter finally being held responsible for not having read the very paper they submitted are... something. Mainly, they don't think they should have to check every citation or make sure the data is real and accurate. Because it's too hard, I guess.
