As per my previous blogging about real history being age-gated, a folk song merely about the 1966 Aberfan disaster now requires age verification. Which is a fairly awful irony. Chapeau @cjforms.bsky.social

Got 'em: The @thebulwark.com added an editor's note to the review, acknowledging that the author's direct affiliation with the Foundation for American Innovation ("the foundation shaping the tech right," according to Inc.) created a conflict that should have been forthrightly disclosed.
Editor's note from Bulwark: 1
Editor’s note (September 3, 2026, 1:10 p.m. EDT): In a response to this review posted to social media, Gil Durán, author of The Nerd Reich, has highlighted that the reviewer, Jacob Bruggeman, is affiliated with the Foundation for American Innovation (FAI). Durán mentions FAI in his book, once, in a sentence that reads as follows: “This merging of tech and far-right networks—hosted by the Foundation for American Innovation, which Inc. later described as ‘the foundation shaping the tech right’—seemed like a live test of [Balaji] Srinivasan’s theory.” Bruggeman’s affiliation with FAI is an unpaid, nonresident fellowship (in other words, it is not his day job), and while it was mentioned in his byline beneath this review, we should have made a point of additionally disclosing it in a footnote like this.

The TERF/anti-antiracism nexus in the UK commentariat: Kathleen Stock pre death: doing a video a day for The Times (plus more elsewhere) about how scandalous it all was. Stock post death: thoughts and prayers so much to reflect on I am very sensitive

I'm one of the people who commented on Arday plagiarism situation when it broke. I understand the haste to angrily or defensively blame others for this outcome, and I see that already happening: critics of Arday blaming Cambridge and his publishers for creating the situation;
Arday supporters blaming those in media like me for reporting the unfolding scandal so relentlessly. I don't feel like pronouncing on any of this so soon after the news; it seems to me nothing is clear when emotion runs so high.
Perhaps the inquest will help clarify. I'm deeply sorry that it ended this way, I pray for him, his friends and family, and there is much to reflect on all round.Youtube thumbnails from Times radio: “it’s racism to even question this and that’s the problem in a nutshell.

You are Prime Minister. You have a large majority. You can legislate to ban them. If he's this hopeless on disposable BBQs then anything more ambitious is doomed.
Speaking during a visit to Stevenage, Burnham said a disposable barbecue ban was something the government was "certainly going to consider"
•
He said he understood why people might want to use the grills outside, but added: "We need to, in my view, have a situation where almost we just have a temporary ban on those things.
We're going to look at that issue today.
"I don't know whether we can persuade retailers to do that, but I do believe we need to get the message out loud and clear that people should not be using those barbecues outside at this moment in time.
"We do want people to take the greatest possible care when they are out in the countryside, both in terms of cigarettes, but also those temporary barbecues that we know are causing risk of fires."
