Meet the Author!!
Emoria Weidner is an author as well as a theatre professional and teacher. She worked at mainly one theatre for fifteen years, atraid of coming out as trans because of the fear that it would hurt her acting and teaching career.
Coming out in 202l as nonbinary, and more truly in 2025 as c woman both hurt her acting and teaching careers. She was right. And it doesn't fucking matter, because she would have been happier if she came out sooner. Bowing to accommodate people who cannot see you means scraping your face against the ground. Eventually, you start to lose your face.

Summary
The novel takes place in a magical-realist world where Yuri (lesbian), Yaoi (gay men), and Hetslop (hetslop) are not genres of fiction, but drinkable hallucinogens. When you want to have a delightful evening, a glass of yuri will deliver a unique fantasy directly to your imagination, determined by the vintage you choose to imbibe. And Simon? Well, despite being a 24 year-old man, Simon drinks a LOT of yuri. He just thinks it tastes better than hetslop or yaoi, you know? It doesn't mean anything that his preferred fantasies are of lesbians. Obviously. Couldn't mean anything else. About his gender. Or anything like that. Sure, Simon got a job as a server at a yuri bar, but that's just because it was convenient. Nothing to read into there. At all. Then, one night, a very intimidating Woman arrives at the bar and orders the most toxic drink on the menu. Before Simon knows what is happening, he finds himself serving Her in more ways than he could ever have imagined. And She has plans for him. And does it seem like her eyes are literally on fire? And are those fangs???
Not that Simon would be into that, or whatever. Obviously not.
Being made to serve a Powerful, Scary, potentially Monstrous Woman? Definitely not something he'd ever fantasized about.
Definitely not the subject of yuri after yuri he drank alone, nightly, after each shift. No. Simon doesn't want this. Obviously. It's not Like he's a girl or anything.

Content Warnings
• Aftertaste is a novel only suitable for mature readers. It contains dissociation, gaslighting, violence, death, murder, gore, body horror, explicit sex, mild domestic violence, some BDSM, and a fantasy equivalent of alcohol/drug consumption and abuse.
• There are several passages where the idea of how much consent the lead character is capable of in their situation is intentionally muddy. This dubious consent is addressed as such later in the book, when the character understands the situation better.
• Sexual assault and rape are mentioned and discussed.
There is a scene where rape is threatened, but does not occur. This scene still qualifies as a sexual assault, however.
• The concept of forced-feminization, and what it might mean for people who fantasize about it, is explored regularly.
• Suicidal ideation, and a story about a suicide in the past, occur brietly.
• Dysphoria, internalized transphobia, and external transphobia are core motifs of the book and are present in every chapter. This is a story about surviving these things, but please use caution if reading the struggle of a young trans character finding themself through a lot of uncertainty is triggering for you.
• There is a detailed, chapter-by-chapter breakdown of the individual content in the back of the book and online.
• Love yourself, love your boundaries, and take breaks from the book if sections are hurting too much.
