@nerd4cities.bsky.social the marymoor sign has been fixed! thank you for using your platform...
the east lake sammamish trail with a wayfinding sign finally in its correct orientation. a family is walking along the trail and there's a 2 line train approaching on the overhead track. everyone lets out a sigh of relief, remembering for a brief moment that things *can* get better.

Who do you want to have the final say for crosswalk improvements next to a school? 1) The Seattle Department of Transportation’s Chief Transportation Safety Officer Or 2) Historic boards SDOT should consult historic boards to ensure a continuity of character without giving them a veto on safety

the dual purpose of "our AI is getting too powerful!" is firstly to generate hype & secondly to provide a reason to scale it down that isn't uh oh, this nonsense is very expensive and we can't figure out a way to make a profit with it

Kinda surprised it pulled Illinois despite the concentration on the west coast. mydialect.us/quiz-full.html
MyDialect heat map with concentrations in the west, midwest, and northeast. "You talk most like someone from Illinois - about 55% of your answers match a typical resident."

This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
Not only is this system astonishingly untested, USPS has simultaneously implemented an
impracticable zero percent failure rate.
13 When ballots are submitted to USPS in large-volume
batches, if any one ballot in the batch cannot be verified against the Portal, all ballots in that
batch will be rejected. For example, if a state election official brings a batch of 10,000 ballots to
USPS and USPS is unable to match just one of those ballots against the Portal – because, for
example, someone has recently changed their name after marriage or they’ve moved – then
USPS would refuse to mail the remaining 9,999 ballots as well. As the whistleblower notes,

just snipped the stock CMOS battery off of my desktop motherboard and soldered in a CR2032 holder, because that was easier than disassembling the whole thing to replace the battery "normally" 😑

Makes sense, if that's the case there should definitely be an explanation on the form page.

Glad you're doing this advocacy, but requiring a gendered or professional title on your form really sucks.

the new alert is wrong again! it should be shuttles from judkins to cap hill. also, no shuttle location is provided for judkins, just for every other station along the closure. why is this so hard?

social media that's bad for minors is obviously bad for adults too. crazy to me that the move seems to be to just accept that and ban minors rather than regulate the obvious design patterns that were put in there on purpose which make it harmful to its users

In my experience, angry petitions fighting against something tend to get 10X the engagement of those expressing gratitude. I don't love what that says about our culture, and I also worry that it makes it harder to keep momentum going when elected leaders do the right thing. But you can be the change
