WB-Discovery was carrying over $40 billion in debt. Now Skydance-Paramount-WB is carrying *$80 billion* in debt, and layoffs are already being promised. It was a stupid deal and everyone knows it, and a total wipeout is not outside the real of possibility.

You’ll probably be disappointed if you think of Aaron Sorkin’s ‘The Social Reckoning’ as a sequel to David Fincher’s ‘The Social Network.’ In truth, it’s a more modest picture, but also a quite entertaining take-down of Facebook in recent years.

Full of the writer-director’s patented zingers, this frothy take-down of Facebook is surprisingly fun, until it isn’t.

Tom McCarthy’s A STATEMENT recreates a 1980 conference about climate change with warmth, humor, and gentle precision. It’s filled with great performances. It’s really entertaining. And by the end you’ll feel uncontainable, harrowing despair. My review: www.vulture.com/article/the-...

The Mesmerizing A Statement Hits Like a Brick to the Head
For all its well-founded despair, Spotlight director Tom McCarthy’s new film also manages to be extremely entertaining.

Kind of highlights the absurdity of the entire fucking thing that you can ritualistically try to kill a person, fail at it, then send them to the hospital for life-saving medical care. What a cruel fucking joke.

FATALITY
A tweet from Joyce Carol Oates: overall takeaway from the Curtis Yarvin profile is that there must be millions of smart-aleck show-offy kids who annoy their teachers and go on to annoy other adults through their lives with their “contrarian” pose that hardens to a carapace over their faces; until, as adults, they still harbor a delusion that, if there is a king, or a fuhrer, he’d be impressed with the guys motor mouth and appoint him to his cabinet rather than deleting him with a negligent swipe of his wrist as Stalin did routinely.

All things considered, my review is more mixed than most, since I acknowledge some good/interesting things about the film. But it’s really just a sign of how limited the fresh/rotten, thumbs up/down approach to criticism can be. Ideally (imo) a review should allow people to decide for themselves.
