I kept waiting for things to get "intense" because that was the review I kept getting from friends, and then when only the 10 minutes fit that bill, I realized that either my brain is broken by what is actually intense and this wasn't it, or it was intense and my brain is broken in general.

Out of 50+ members on my dad's side, at least 5 people are diagnosed with narcolepsy or sleep apnea, and then there are the rest of us sleepy guys. Probs at least 10. Grew up keeping my dad awake when he was driving until I was old enough to drive. 😅 Only one time in the ditch, hashtag farmers.

What I do regret is doing it before my grandma died. Had I held off, I think the funeral would have been a lot easier. Sometimes the quiet part starts blaring loudly in a room it wasn't invited into and then you learn if you handle it by finding ear plugs, or if you seek out the noise to shut it up.

Yeah, being someone who identifies in the same camp as some of these folks but also being from the Midwest/religious/a farm kid, etc. often makes me feel like I'm crazy for just...acknowledging people can change? And human suffering in people who have no actual power isn't ever satisfying.

I grew up in the Christian and Missionary Alliance, and that was like if a Methodist and a Baptist had a baby, shoved it on a plane to go live overseas with strangers, and then put the baby's picture in an edition of Voice of the Martyrs newsletter as a success story.

former homeschooler here and this is nonsense. homeschoolers, like many other conservative communities, are taught to hate the vast majority of americans and huge swaths of the constitution. this hatred gets coded as “patriotic” while other critiques of america can literally get you deported.

I had a GREAT time watching The Mandolorian and Grogu. Every stick in the mud who can't just go in expecting to have a low stakes good time is missing out. This isn't Lord of the Rings. It's a Disney approved space Western. Just go to giggle at cute creatures and to cheer for Mando in the pit.
