I see that Kemi Badenoch will finally unveil the long lost magic money tree at Conservative conference. Well, either that or make a lot of promises that like the last government she couldn't deliver.

Watching the Sunday morning politics shows. Right wing message seems to be that we need to cut benefits because we are not growing. However, we can't rejoin the EU because we are growing faster than them... Oh and also watch out for migrants who want your doctors appointment. Ok then, that's clear.

Sure enough, I already heard Andrew Neill on Times radio immed warping the debate: harping on endlessly about the (genuine) difficulties of rebuilding with the EU, but completely overlooking the costs of continuing as we are. No one says it’ll be easy; but we shd at least be more honest about sit’n.

Tom Tugendhat in Sunday Times insists on leaving the ECHR to tackle “soaring” immigration. What a miserable rat. Lying to us all. Betraying our country’s best interests. Threatening to flounce out of our human rights framework, trashing our treaties and torching our protection from abuses of power.
The Tories are planning to make the ECHR a dividing line at the next election. Last week the party announced plans to deport every foreign criminal, apart from those convicted of the most trivial offences, and said their plan for ECHR withdrawal meant only the Conservatives were equipped to take on the problem of soaring immigration. One of the problems withdrawal would create is a legal dispute over whether it breaches the Good Friday agreement, which committed the UK to fully incorporate the ECHR into Northern Ireland's justice system. Tugendhat said the issue had not yet been raised in his conversations with lawmakers in the US, adding:
"There's a lot of work to be done."

Absolutely fascinating to see Laura Kuenssberg interviewing Burnham, flailing to adjust her stance to a politician with a moral argument and a positive message, who stands up for his policies and answers her questions clearly. She is getting so agitated at him not playing the game by the 'rules'.

Kuenssberg couldn't sleep last night, imagining how she would spring "Santa Burnham" on the PM. She is crestfallen that he actually has a cogent answer, that is not a version of "it's true, poor people are wicked and must be punished".

What’s your legacy Johnson? Brexit. Total collapse of trust in politics. And this. The small boats symbolise your dishonesty and your failure. You’re responsible for nothing but damage. Not one good thing. Not one proud moment. You’re forever a shameful disgrace who threw his own mandate in the bin.
