Southend. The restaurant is closing around us to the extent of turning off lights. There is no one else here. It’s 9.15.

From Reginald D Hunter live yet now my father and I both do it wordlessly- when someone says “bear with me” or “bear left” a little clawing motion with both hands. Also, whenever I’ve mislaid anything, doing the full Prigozhin “Shoigu, Gerasimov, where’s my ammunition?” bit about whatever I’ve lost

For National Poetry Day, a personal favourite of mine and one I think about more and more in these troubled times.
The Second Coming
By W.B. Yeats

Guess who just got back today?
Them wild-eyed boys that'd been away
Haven't changed, hadn't much to say
But man, I still think them cats are crazy
They were askin' if you were around
How you was, where you could be found
Told them you were livin' downtown
Drivin' all the old men crazy

[Chorus]
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
(I said) The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town

At lunch my colleague told me that his single flatmate matched with a girl on Hinge who invited him to her place for the first date. When he arrived, there were already 8 other men there and she explained that she was hosting a version of The Bachelorette, where they’d all have to compete for her.

That said, I did nearly kidnap Terence Stamp at Heathrow a few years ago because my Dad was driving a black Bentley out of the car park and Terence was waiting for his ride and we slowed down to go over a speed bump and Terence stepped forward expectantly.

I always love the Bill Bailey story that he went to see Marilyn Manson in Milton Keynes and thus they were all treated to the sight of a 6 ft man in a rubber corset and with different coloured eyes laying on the stage and chanting ”Milton Keynes…Milton Keynes…MILTON KEYNES”.

For today's #OnlineArtExchange, we step into the Belle Époque with Charles Hoffbauer's "In the Restaurant" (1907). A canvas breathing with metallic light: shimmering gold sequins, a veil of sheer silver, and amber whispers of bronze. (The Hermitage Collection) @artukdotorg.bsky.social
Oil painting titled "In the Restaurant" (1907) by Charles Hoffbauer. A glamorous woman stands in the foreground of a softly lit Belle Époque restaurant. She wears an elegant, shimmering evening gown covered in gold sequins, paired with a sheer silver shawl and a red rose at her chest. In the background, other patrons sit at tables covered with white cloths under a warm, amber glow.

A woman held a door open for me so I did the compulsory little jog and she said “you don’t have to speed up”. You expect me to walk, at normal speed, when someone ahead is holding a door for me. Like a sociopath.
