Dear people of the UK, this Prize is for you! In 1946, the British founded the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. 80 years on, NRW says "Thank you", presenting its highest award, the State Prize, to the people of the UK, recognising the deep friendship between the state and the UK.

We shouldn't have a Quiet Carriage on the train. We should have a NoisyCcarriage. If you want to watch or listen to the phone without headphones, or have loud and never-ending conversations, you go and sit in the Noisy Carriage. The rest of the train is de facto Quiet. Who's with me?

The danger of using voxpops in place of real analysis. Cameras are a magnet for motivated activists. These two made it into four different reels + a dozen print pieces. The illusion is that we're getting an insight into "Clacton voters". In truth, we just know what Farage Megastans Jim & June think.

Everyone on X and elsewhere who called for a violent response should be charged with incitement. Everyone involved in the pogrom should be locked up with exemplary sentences. Govt should make it clear that will be the response in future anywhere else. Enough.

I think we’d need to actually research it to prove that. But I take your point - tho I disagree. Anyway, I’m off on a Sunday walk by the coast - nice chatting!

My apologies - you are of course absolutely correct (that’ll teach me to try to make sandwiches, listen to the radio and do social media at the same time). Sorry. But it remains that both BBC headlines attribute a claim/statement - just in different ways

This is not a screenshot of the BBC website. Maybe the Independent? bsky.app/profile/ajfa...

Ben @benhcraig.bsky.social · 24/05/2026
The screengrab you originally gave is not the BBC. But again, the BBC link couches it as ‘Farage says’, so we know it’s his view - it doesn’t need a quote

Ben @benhcraig.bsky.social · 24/05/2026
Plus that’s not the BBC

It’s certainly the BBC’s style and pretty common elsewhere (including the paper I edited). Easy to get wrong end of the stick tho - style isn’t always obvious to viewers/readers. Media literacy is tough!

Every day the news bulletin begins "President Trump has said..." Yet we know he'll say something different tomorrow, which is different to what he said yesterday, & that none of these statements is likely to be true. I get the problem for broadcasters, but this model is actively occluding the news

it feels quite bad that it's basically impossible to argue that much of the modern right in the west has become both entirely intellectually shallow and deeply, fundamentally morally corrupt without sounding like a tedious teenage tankie, because it is.....the factual truth
