I love the range of it as an album, hell even just in Erotomania/Voices/The Silent Man. And it's so heavy, both traditionally (e.g. The Mirror) and not; like the weight of the atmosphere in stuff like Space Dye Vest, even. Ok, I should be sleeping, but I have to listen to the whole thing now

Nice, Awake does have some superb tracks. Haven't listened to it in ages!

I declare it is time for my first promosky 🥳 Nice to meet you! If you like any of these, maybe we can be friends: 🎮 Pokémon, Fire Emblem, cosy sims, Persona, JRPGs 🤓 Board games 📺 Heartstopper, Disney, Marvel 📕 Romantasy 🐱 Cats 🧠 Language learning, psychology/mental health Safe space for all 🌈🏳️‍⚧️

A selfie of me wearing a black Yellowcard T shirt with yellow writing on it. I have dark blonde hair and dark blue eyes and I am smiling into the camera. I am wearing black square-framed glasses. In the background, you can see an open white door and a window into a room.

A photo of my tuxedo cat Bobo lying on a grey-brown sofa looking into the camera. He is blind so his pupils are unusually huge and dilated. In the background. You can see a messy coffee table and games controllers.

A meme (not created by me) showing a sleeping Pikachu plush on a pile of pink cushions. The caption reads: I WOULD BE UNSTOPPABLE
IF NOT FOR THE TIRED SLEEPY

A screenshot of a sun appearing on the horizon with a cat’s face on it. You can see the cat has a white face and it looks like it is smiling, but it is too zoomed in to see any other features of the cat.

The sun is rising over green fields and hills, and in the bottom left you can see some yellow flowers. It looks like the setting for the kids’ TV show Teletybbies, popular at least in the UK in the 1990s.

The caption reads: Me and my bullsh*t coming to brighten your day

Finally, it's language. Despite the fact I can find the trains for where most of it came from, what really matters is what people use. And people say both, so neither is wrong.

010

Jon ~ beforan 🎮 Dragon Quest VIII @beforan.jon.gg · 31/08/2026

And floppy is fine whether the outside is floppy or not. Of course they're called "discs" because they're flat circular objects. I'm pretty sure that comes from Greek, ends with a chi and so should really be "Disk", even though English already made it "Disc" (probably because of French) 5/6

110

Jon ~ beforan 🎮 Dragon Quest VIII @beforan.jon.gg · 31/08/2026

Because for 7 or 8" and 5.25" ones, both the internal disc and the case were floppy, but for the 3.5" ones most people will remember (and immortalised as the save icon) the disc is floppy but case is hard. So for diskettes either is fine (because there a disc inside the disk). 4/?

110

Jon ~ beforan 🎮 Dragon Quest VIII @beforan.jon.gg · 31/08/2026

Diskette (which disk is short for) is related to cassette (as in cassette tape). Cassette means "little case", because all the tape was in a little case. I'm not sure if diskette means "little disc" or "disc in a case", subs they're kinda of both true. Of course"Floppy Disk" is weird too 3/?

110

Jon ~ beforan 🎮 Dragon Quest VIII @beforan.jon.gg · 31/08/2026

SSDs are drives, not disks, but people still call them disks, or say "on disk" to refer to files persisted locally, not in ram or the cloud (despite cloud servers obviously using persistent drives) 2/?

110

Jon ~ beforan 🎮 Dragon Quest VIII @beforan.jon.gg · 31/08/2026

In English it's disc when it's round (e.g. optical media) and disk for floppy or hard disks, because it's short for diskette and the discs are in a container / case. 1/?
