The UK is currently delivering the fastest reduction in borrowing levels in the G7. That is the right approach. The Tories aren’t just opposing the measures that are making that happen, their proposals are to put it sharply into reverse

Soaring energy and housing costs mean Labour is on course to preside over the worst parliament for living standards in modern times, a stark analysis warns. The JRF predicts that, after housing costs, average household incomes will be between £440 and £770 lower in real terms in 2029-30.

NEW - Kemi Badeoch says there will be no inheritance tax to pay ever on a family home. Interested to know how this affects the housing market. Asset-rich pensioners just got a huge (extra) incentive not to downsize.

So far Badenoch wants to spend £10bn on an iron dome, cut inheritance tax, cut NI, keep the triple lock, refuse to get any closer to our biggest trading partner & cut taxes…. so her offer in the “battle for the soul of the nation” is to starve it even more!? Sod that.

The Tories have had over two years to come up with a broad set of new policies and they've reverted to their same old mean spirited small minded ones they have had for decades. More austerity and the type of deregulation that led to Grenfell.

Voters loathed the Tory party when they booted them out in 2024.They really needed to shake off their disgrace with humility and better ideas. They haven’t. They’ve doubled down. More Brexit, more austerity, more anti-immigration ugliness, more tedious arrogance… and no good reason to vote for them.
Party seems to have learnt nothing from 2024 defeat
John Oxley

The Conservative Party is keen to show it is now ready to return to government, two and a half years after a
historic defeat.Their self-soothing explanation posits that defeat came from not being able to do what they wanted

No such pivot is happening at the current conference. The Tories have come to Birmingham calling for a return to orthodoxy, with similar lines about cutting benefits and regulation. Even so, they seem trapped by the same contradictions
- pledging to cut benefits, but not the winter fuel payments and triple lock on pensions that go to their voters.
There is no "hug-a-hoodie" moment in Birmingham. The Conservative Party is not indicating that it has changed or seeking to broaden its appeal. It is doing the opposite: it is a party returning to its core, restating all the old ideas voters have rejected but louder.

So Tory: Cut regulations & future proofing to save private businesses loads of money. Also so Tory to pretend house builders will pass the savings on, when we all know they’ll pocket it, enrich themselves & councils will be left to fund things these levies cover & people’s bills will be higher.
