The questions today go to "whether or not I've been lied to. Whether I've been lied to in the declarations about the plan, whether I've been lied to about the timing of things, whether I've been lied to about what kind of notice the court was going to receive."

I love that Terry Pratchett wrote a book that was simultaneously about challenging gender identity in society, the complexities of police unions and internal corruption, and a shaggy dog story about werewolves hating baths. “The Fifth Elephant” was great to revisit.

COMIC: The Balrog
PANEL 1: The BALROG from Lord of the Rings, falls in a cloud of smoke and flame. Next to him is a tiny GANDALF, his staff and sword falling next to him. On either side of them are the cave walls.
BALROG: Hey sport — I noticed you haven’t said a thing while we fall. …WE GOOD?

PANEL 2: Close up on the BALROG, still falling, he holds up two thumbs up.
BALROG: Because I’m really sorry about attacking you. I should’ve known the dark fire would not avail me. Especially since you’re a… “Wielder of the Flame of Anor.” Which, honestly? I didn’t know! Sounds super cool.

PANEL 3: Still falling, the BALROG continues.
BALROG: So listen: I’m SORRY that I whacked you with my sword, and whipped you, and yelled at you. THAT IS MY BAD. But maybe we could…START FRESH?

PANEL 4: The BALROG, still falling but now facing upwards. The tiny GANDALF now stands on his chest, stabbing him with his sword.
BALROG: yeah no ok that’s fair.

Look, people keep saying shit like this, and I do not know how to explain to people that "I want the Democrats to hold the GOP accountable for their crimes" is not a statement that the GOP has no agency. It is saying they have agency, they are choosing to do evil, and you have to stand up to them.

Today is indigenous peoples day. It is crucial to remember and talk about how there is still an active genocide against the tribal nations that were here for eons before this country colonized their land. Broken treaties and needless cruelty STILL HAPPEN. Sacred sites are under attack right now.

"these researchers published a paper on something that literally any of us could have told you 🙄" ok well my supervisors wont let me write something in my thesis unless I can back it up with a citation so maybe it's a good thing that they're amplifying your voice to the scientific community in a way that prevents people from writing off your experiences as annecdotal evidence
they did the research in the first place because they believed you and wanted to tell people about it. they are not our enemies.

people always go "Instead of spending all that time on a study they could have just listened to us when we said these thing happen"

they did listen, that's how studies work, they asked people about their experiences and put all the data together in a nice package that can be cited

BREAKING: Trump administration cut down more than 500 trees on Saturday at the East Potomac Golf Course after giving less than a full-day notice, with more tree-cutting planned, so plaintiffs challenging the effort went to court seeking a TRO tonight. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
EMERGENCY MOTION FOR A TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER OR, ALTERNATIVELY, FOR A 14-DAY STAY UNDER SECTION 705 OF THE

Plaintiffs hereby move the Court to enter a 14-day temporary restraining order under Rule

forward and we can't, you know, stop the trains," Status Conf. Tr. ("Apr. 13 Tr.") at 18:15-19:10,
Apr. 13, 2026, Defendants have begun irreversible damage to East Potomac Golf Course. At
4:55 p.m. on Friday preceding the holiday weekend, Defendants announced their intent to
begin-barely 12 hours later—a massive operation to clear 529 trees at East Potomac Golf
Course. Decl. of Dr. Kevin Griess, Superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks,
National Park Service 920, ECF 74-1. Although they initially represented that their work would proceed in stages, Defendants in fact took down 529 trees on Saturday alone and have confirmed
to Plaintiffs that they intend to take down hundreds more.
Defendants' surprise tree-razing operation constitutes classic National Environmental
Policy Act segmentation: undertaking elements of a larger project piecemeal and insisting that they are independent and therefore need not be evaluated in a single NEPA review of the entire
project. Defendants cannot circumvent their NEPA obligations in this manner. Delaware
Riverkeeper Network v. F.E.R.C., 753 F.3d 1304, 1313 (D.C. Cir. 2014).Therefore, and for the reasons explained in the Memorandum accompanying this Motion
and supporting exhibits, the Court should enter a 14-day temporary restraining order under Rule
65(b) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure or, alternatively, a 14-day stay under 5 U.S.C.
§ 705, enjoining Defendants from any further tree felling at East Potomac Park. In addition, the
Court should order Defendants to provide the Court and Plaintiffs no less than three business days' written advance notice before any irreparable modification to any permanent forms or
features of East Potomac Park.
If the Court believes a hearing would be appropriate, Plaintiffs request a hearing on this
motion at the Court's first availability. At the parties' meet and confer on Sunday afternoon, Defendants represented that the tree-clearing operation would continue this week until
completed. Defendants indicated during the meet and confer that rain foreclosed any work on
