Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is taking a try-before-you-buy approach with her new photo-centric AI agent startup Dazzle, a tactic she said is important “for those occasional users or those users who are just trying to see what the service can do at the very beginning.”

Dazzle analyzes users’ personal photos to understand aspects of their lives, such as their family members or interests, and then can take actions like reminding someone that a pair of shoes they recently looked up is on sale online.

It’s a strategy she learned from her early tenure at Google

The headline refers to "exaggerated portrayals of one candidate as a con artist and the other as a drunk"; the article then spends a lot of time detailing a single incident, which has been widely exaggerated beyond all proportion and recognization, and finally turns to Ramaswamy's career exploits, which are by no measure being exaggerated beyond defensible arguments as to their social impact. Why couldn't this article be accurately headlined: In Ugly Fight For Ohio Governor, Exaggeration of Single Personal Incident Is Pitted Against a Plutocrat's Career and Its Consequences. Concerned readers are eager to know.

Side note: "LLMs screening LLM-generated content" is the basic structure that the Senate's draft bill would establish for federal energy permitting. It mandates building LLMs for generating and reviewing permit applications and provides little support for human civil servants to do permitting work.

A UK research funder used LLMs to screen and desk-reject grant proposals with no human input, then (and this is the unique part) told rejected authors about it. I assume federal appointees in US research agencies are doing the same, though without the "tell people about it" bit.

At the same time, local landowners attained great power and status in Rome: by the 180s CE nearly a third of Roman senators were of African origin.[33] These were men like Septimius Severus,

The fiscal year is over. The dying Social, Behavioral, and Economic division of NSF ended up awarding 90 total grants this year, as opposed to ~700-800 in recent past years. Source: grantwitness.org/nsf/analyses...
The graph shows the cumulative number of awards made by month across this fiscal year, as compared to the last 6 fiscal years. The line for this year is total flat until June, but then finally gets up to 91 by October. In prior years the increase starts building earlier and ends on average in the 700-800 range (with variability, last year was only between 400-500).
