The exporting is done naively through screenshots of the entire render to capture 3D, etc... so I guess fonts are not a problem^^

I'm thinking about a way to embed it in a webpage where the animations would be recorded end you way still be able to change slides by hand. No interactivity but the animations would remain... The dream would be emscriptten but polyscope is incompatible for now...

Yes this is always a risk (it happened to me once, we had to install the lib on a friend's laptop in a rush, it turned out ok!). But worst case scenario, you can export your presentation into a PDF automatically! (Most of the animations will be lost but that's better than nothing 😅)

Hi! Thank you! To be honest, the 4 times I had to present there, it was possible (sometimes everyone had to) to present on my laptop. So I never had a problem... It's like conf templates I guess, more a suggestion than a requirement?

This project would have literally not been possible without the amazing Polyscope polyscope.run library made by @nmwsharp.bsky.social ! And many thanks to my advisor @dcoeurjo.bsky.social for bullying me into talking about out it publicly! xD

It's a back-burner project of mine for nearly 3 years now. I used it for all my presentations at Eurographics and SIGGRAPH, so I'm really happy to talk about it! Links: Documentation slopedoc.github.io Examples github.com/baptiste-gen... Youtube tutorial www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEEs...

If you used manim, you KNOW, that math animations take time... To avoid this, you define only your very complicated animations in C++ (possibly using directly your scientific code!), but most of the talk is made using hot-reloaded yaml (for the compositing), latex, shaders and lua snippets!

As graphics researchers or geometry teachers, we speak about 3D using screenshots, and that's just sad... What if you could make SLides on top of PolyscOPE? You can using SLOPE! Slope allows you to synchronize a 3D viewer, animated meshes, shaders, live demos, equations (& more) with your slides!

I know nothing about GPU programming, so I thought that BSP-OT on the GPU would not work because we are recursive then sequential... I asked Claude to give it a try in CUDA: x10 speed-up 😳 0.4s for 350k points in 3D, with the same quality as the CPU 😱 Here is the code: github.com/baptiste-gen...

I realized that the final line in the core algorithm was missing a term 🫠 (but the math describing it was fine). Anyway, we could make his implementation work! Here is his godot implem: github.com/ARez2/Implic... I (and claude) made a standalone C++ version out of it: github.com/baptiste-gen...

At the end of my internship at Adobe, we could not release code for numerous reasons. But I thought that the pseudo-code in the paper would be enough for anyone to re-implement it! I was wrong 🫠 @arezdev.de contacted me a week ago, asking why his implementation did not work...

My implementation of the paper "Implicit UVs: Real-time semi-global parameterization of implicit surfaces" from @baptiste-genest.bsky.social. The paper describes a way to texture SDFs in realtime by letting the user place seeds on the surface which get blended into a global UV space #godot #Graphics

Wrong turn (1/3)
Page 1 of comic. A village of alien denizens on a planet with a massive black hole in place of a sun. Narrative text reads: We were a peaceful folk. Every day, we’d rise and sing to our sun. Until one day…Page 2. Narrative reads: “It sang back.” A neon blue green comet flies out from the black hole, impossibly. The aliens stare up at the sky.

I recently completed my PhD thesis, where I developed algorithms for making geometric inferences from imperfect data (i.e. incomplete and inaccurate observations/representations of shapes, like broken meshes or point clouds). A thread 🧵:

cseweb.ucsd.edu/~tzli/cool_r... I started to maintain a list of homepages of graphics academics who I think did cool work, are younger than me, and are not my current/past students. It's a living list so if I read any cool papers I'll add the authors to the list. I encourage you to do the same!

Yep I'm been playing with the BSP-OT solver and it is quite fast. The following interpolation is done on 300k samples and only takes a few seconds (but can only find permutations). Generating the GIF/animation is slower than solving the problem.

How does it impact downstream applications? Essentially, we show that the results interpolate between the standard calculus on the mean surface at low uncertainty and a volumetric representation of the shape where regions without data are more and more ignored at high uncertainty.

Baptiste GENEST @baptiste-genest.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
E.g., we define a probabilistic analog of the laplacian as the functional gradient of the *expected* Dirichlet energy. We also derive other useful objects to study the geometry of GPIS, like a meaningful notion of surface likelihood, and a matrix field encoding the distribution of tangent planes.
110
Baptiste GENEST @baptiste-genest.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
But if the surface is random, then so are integrals over them! So what? Monte-Carlo? No! Our core contribution is to show that the Kac-Rice formula is perfect for the job as it allows us to express the exact expected value of such integrals over the entire shape distribution at once!
120
Baptiste GENEST @baptiste-genest.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
To perform geometry processing on such surfaces, we propose analogs of core differential operators in geometry: Laplacian, gradient, divergence. A common way to define the Laplacian for instance, is through the Dirichlet energy, i.e, the integral over the surface of squared variation of a function.
110
Baptiste GENEST @baptiste-genest.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
We work on random surfaces that are encoded as Gaussian Process Implicit Surfaces (GPIS). Essentially, if the isosurface of a standard scalar field encodes a single shape, the isosurfaces of a *random* scalar field (a Gaussian process) encodes a distribution of surfaces.

Baptiste GENEST @baptiste-genest.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
In our @acmsiggraph.bsky.social SIGGRAPH 2026 paper with @dcoeurjo.bsky.social “Uncertainty-aware geometry processing on Gaussian Process Implicit Surfaces”, we propose a way to do geometry processing over *probability distributions* of shapes!
120
Baptiste GENEST @baptiste-genest.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
When dealing with noisy and/or partial inputs to describe a shape, the standard approach in geometry processing is to reconstruct a clean implicit surface first, and to do geometry on it. But why this one in particular? What about all the other surfaces that would have been coherent with the input?
